Possible fix for save file issues with steam version

So I've been playing the game (downloaded from steam), and just finished the third episode. I went to start episode 4, and in the recap, "previously on, 'the walking dead," it was showing decisions I didn't make.

I tried looking up some fixes, and heard about the "copy to another save spot, then start the inital game" fix. I tried that, and sometimes it would just show me that I had only done up to chapter 3 in episode 3.

Reading elsewhere in the forums, I read that everything is saved in a file called prefs.prop

Supposedly, it's only supposed to be in one spot:
documents/telltale games/the walking dead

I also found another copy of it in my steam folder:
steam/steamapps/common/the walking dead/pack/walkingdead103

I tried a few things with deleting and moving these files, and eventually got it working.

!!! WARNING !!!
ONLY DO THIS IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH SAVING BACKUP FILES BEFOREHAND. ALWAYS CREATE BACKUPS OF EVERY SINGLE FILE YOU'RE GOING TO MOVE/CHANGE/DELETE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY OF THIS

What I found was that if I deleted the prefs.prop from the steam folder, it would show I had only finished up to chapter 3 in episode 3. If I deleted the profs.prop from the documents folder and kept the steam one, it would show up correctly in the menu, but starting the game in episode 4 would still show up with the incorrect choices.

The answer was this:
1. Delete prefs.prop from the documents/telltale games/the walking dead folder (keeping in mind the warning above)
2. Cut and paste the prefs.prop file from:
steam/steamapps/common/the walking dead/pack/walkingdead103
and move it to:
documents/telltale games/the walking dead

Started the game, and I was able to straight away start chapter 4, and the recap showed the correct choices I made.

Apparently the documents file got corrupted somehow, but luckily steam had a working backup. You may still need to do the "copy from save slot to a new slot, then start game from old save slot" trick as well.

Hopefully that works for another poor soul.

Hm. I had a prefsprop file in my Steam folder earlier, but I don't anymore. My save from episode 2 got jacked and now I'm back in episode 1. :(

I just don't understand why TellTale can't go back and just fix the damned code to force the game to save and read from ONE location!! It would eliminate all of these bullshit workarounds.

I had the initial save issue plus the black screen issue but this worked for me. The root of my issue seemed to be a pres.prop in the walking dead season 2 folder that was somehow superceding the telltale one. I had a total of 3 pref.props, but deleted/backuped the ones in the walking dead and episode 2 folders.
