Windows 8 problems! Controller and Saves!

TWD has terrible Windows 8 problems and they really need to fix this. My saves were corrupted and my xbox 360 controller doesn't work either. I can only use the d-pad and the A and B buttons. Please Telltale come out with a Windows 8 update because I haven't been able to play episode 4 and 5 yet! And I don't want to have to buy this on my Xbox 360 because I already gave you my 25 bucks!

Unfortunately the only response we've gotten is that Windows 8 is not a supported platform. Telltale helpfully point out it isn't mentioned in the supported system requirements. While I can see that is 100% correct, I still think it's poor form :(

But what can you do. If it isn't mentioned in the supported systems, we don't really have a leg to stand on.

i dont really get it, how a game realease in 2012 can't support the last Microsoft OS?

I'm having the same problem. I lost my progress because I had my 360 controller connected when I started the game. Sadly, I'm not expecting them to do anything about this :/ I don't think they did a good enough job of getting the word out that this was a problem, though. Have they said anywhere outside of this forum "This game will have problems with Windows 8, so be aware before upgrading"? Or did nobody know about this stuff until some unfortunate sucker got their saved games wiped?

I know. The worst thing is these issues were reported in the Developers Preview, the Consumer Preview, the RTM and now the official retail. It's not like it caught them by surprise.

I've been using win 8 for work purposes since the CP. The only program that I've had any issues with is TWD. But I was fine with that because I knew I was using a pre-release OS. I just assumed a big name developer like TellTale would have made sure their products would work with a major upcoming windows release.

I can only assume they expect win8 to fail so hard it's not worth supporting, (it's not that bad if you ignore anything Metro related, which is easy to do. It's kind of a Win 7.5 if you do that) Or perhaps they make most of their sales on other systems so aren't that concerned?

Who knows. But I'll tell you something, I won't be buying any other game from them without reading the support forum first. And I'll probably wait till after a whole season is fully released as well.

I do use win8 for Work purpose too. I have it long before TWD was released It's the first issue i get with (even with Beta version of the OS). telltale did an Awefull work. I bought a game tha't i cant play. It's just like you make a DVD today that doesn't work with Blu-ray player.

This is just ridiculous. I'm not sure when the last time was that this board received a post from an employee that actually helped, and the community mods will ignore anything once they realize they can't fix it themselves. At most, they'll just parrot back workarounds that community members have found and don't work for everybody.
Telltale's email support is no better either; I sent them a message on Monday and haven't gotten a response yet. The way they've been handling these issues, I can't say I expect to ever get one. Twitter was unsuccessful as well. And while they're ignoring game breaking issues that have been known about for months, not even telling us if we can expect them to be fixed, it seem like they're fast-tracking fixing issues for the console disk versoions that just came out this week. Shows how important we are to them. It's absolutely disgusting. I've started sending the story to gaming news sites. It's the only thing I can think of that might even have the slightest chance of having an effect.

That's what I've been doing. Log on to see if anything has changed. Make a few snarky comments to feel better. Then log off to avoid any spoilers for ep2 onwards :)

I see TWD has started getting a few Game of the Year awards. Avoiding spoilers is going to get harder I think.

The Windows 8 problem is incredibly baffling. I've played tons of games on Windows 8, and the only other one I had any issue with was LA Noire (and that was fixed months ago). Having the game crash because you have a controller connected is just not cool.

I did play through the entire game using mouse + keyboard (so it's not even like the game doesn't /work/ on Win 8, it's just that stupid bug that crashes the game if you have a controller) but I lost my save file twice after forgetting to disconnect my controller on launch.

There is a work around for that, but it's fairly sketchy. First, start a new game from the episode from which your last save file is from (if you finished an episode then pick that one). Play enough so that the game saves, then quite out. Go to the folder where the save files are, sort by date and locate the save files for your last real save and the new safe. Rename the old, corrupted safe to the name of the new save, load up the game and continue the "new" save. It's clunky, inelegant and doesn't work all that well but it's better than anything TTG has done so far.

Shame too, it's such a great game otherwise.
