PC Problem - Episode 2

I absoloutely love the Walking Dead game! I played through once completely fine and was interested in viewing different story lines. However, I got the black screen with an axe to the right that many people on PCs (Window 7 in my case) have gotten. I uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and Steam.

However, after I play episode 1 now, if I attempt to select "Play" for Episode 2, it asks if I want to generate story decisions for Episode 1, even though I already played it. I'm looking forward to seeing other story lines; please help! :)

In case anyone is interested, I uninstalled and reinstalled both steam and the game again, and that seems to have fixed it. FOR NOW.

OK, unfortunately it doesn't seem to have worked :(

    I'd appreciate any help/suggestions!

perhaps nobody knows how to fix this particular error?

Or maybe everyone is mad at me for accidentally posting this on the regular discussion page, first! :)

and oh, it seems to have only affected the transfer from episode 1 to episode 2. I've played through episode 3 and am in the midst of 4 on my second go-round of the game, and it only impacted episode 2's beginning so far.

With all due respect sir, they made the game. If they don't know how to fix a problem in THEIR game, then they seriously got big problems.

That the issue is often caused by having multiple prefs.prop files, which sometimes happens for unknown reasons.

There should be only one prefs.prop, and that's in the savegame folder:
    Win Vista/7: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\
    XP: %userprofile%\My Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\

If you run TWD in compatibility mode for win95 or win98/me it might save to:
    %PUBLIC%\Documents\Telltale Games\GameData\
    or
    %PUBLIC%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\

Please open the games install folder.

To find the install folder from within Steam, right-click "The Walking Dead" and select "properties".
Then open the "Local Files" Tab. There select "Browse local files".

Please check if there are additional prefs.prop files in the install folder or its subfolders.
If so, make a backup copy of the prefs.prop and delete it from the install folder.

    Now try the game.

If that doesn't help try the steps below.

If you are playing through steam, you first need to disable steam cloud for TWD (In Steam, right click TWD and select "properties". Open the tab "updates" and remove the checkbox from "Enable Steam cloud synchronization for TWD").

Then make a backup copy of the savegame folder's prefs.prop, and then try copying the install folder prefs.prop to the savegame folder.

This is true, but I'm pretty sure no bugs showed up when testing the game at TTG studios and it's not like everyone has the exact same error.
There are people out there who have the exact same system (e.g. Macbook Pros) but one of them is able to run the game perfectly and the other one isn't even able to start it up.
Seems like an almost impossible task to find what's causing this. Ironically, if ALL people would have the same problem, the game would be fixed quicker.

    To follow up:
I never had the prefs.prop folder issue. Messing around with mine didn't help anything, either.

This is what I think did:
When I first uninstalled and reinstalled steam and twd game, I deleted all my games. Or, I deleted all the saves in the prefs folder and then deleted stem and twd game.

Then, when I uninstalled and reinstalled steam and twd when I had a game same at the end of episode 1, right before episode 2's start, when I started up twd again, episode 2 loaded with all my save progress and no prompt to "make up choices" :)

If you still see the scroll going at the top of the screen, you just have to wait. The game is downloading a patch. This can take up to 20 minutes, so sit back and relax. Don't try to switch to windowed mode, this can crash the game and you have to start over.
