Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People - Doesn't Work On Windows 7

So I received SBCG4AP as a gift in the latest Indie Royale bundle. Unfortunately, every time I try to run any of the episodes on my 64-bit Windows 7 laptop, the game simply executes and then closes immediately with no message whatsoever. Every episode, every time.

I have checked my drivers and made sure they are updated. I have restarted my computer. I have run them as administrator. I can run Sam and Max, Puzzle Agent, and Poker Night at the Inventory. I can even run Back to the Future. But I can't get this game to run at all.

Any help would really be appreciated.

EDIT: Compatibility mode doesn't work either.

Did you try multiple Episodes or only the first one?

I think the first step is looking for errors in the event viewer.
Please also post your dxdiag info.

Looking for errors in the event viewer
Start the game until it crashes.
Follow these instructions on how to start the Event viewer.
    Windows 7

    Windows 7/Vista:
    Open the "Windows Logs/Application" section.
Open the search dialog by pressing CTRL-F.
Search for "Homestar" without "". If you get a result, close the search window.
Right click the entry, select "copy the details as text", and paste them in a new reply.
Press F3 to see if you get more results, and if so, copy them as well.

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Windows 8: At the start screen, type in "dxdiag" and hit enter

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

I have tried every episode, all have the same results.

The Event View shows no errors or warnings whenever I run it. Here's my DxDiag file:

How did you check for driver updates?
There are new ones on the manufacturers websites.
You can try installing the latest graphics drivers and audio drivers.

I saw that before, and it seemed like a different update than what my laptop needed, but upon closer inspection I realized it was appropriate after all.

Anyway, I updated my graphics driver and restarted my computer. Didn't work. I updated everything I could from Windows Update and restarted my computer. Didn't work. I updated my audio drivers from the link you provided and restarted my computer (twice, one of them was part of the install process). Didn't work. The game still just opens and immediately closes without so much as a window or error message.

Okay, then we should try something else.
Please try starting the game during a clean boot.

If it still doesn't start, stay in the clean boot, and start process monitor.
Then immediately try starting the game again. Process monitor will log what the game does while it tries to start. Once the Homestar101.exe is closed (you can check in the Task manager), press CTRL+E in process monitor to stop event capturing. Then save the process monitor log (in the menu select "file/save", choose "All Events" and "PML Format", and choose a location).
Then .zip the PML file (which will reduce the size significantly), and upload it to an instant filehoster and post the download link.

Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
    1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
    2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
    3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
    4. Select the Services tab
    5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
    6. Click Disable all
    7. If running the game on Steam, re-check the "Steam Client Service"
    8. Click on OK
    9. Click Restart.
    10. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your settings by doing the following:

    1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
    2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
    3. Click Ok
    4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer

Didn't work during a clean boot. Here's my PML file, zipped up:

I think i found the culprit in the environment variables:
    LUA_PATH=;;C:\Program Files (x86)\Lua\5.1\lua\?.luac

The environment variable LUA_PATH conflicts with several TTG games.
You can either remove the environment variable globally, or you can create a batch file for each episode that first unsets it:
    set LUA_PATH=
    Homestar101.exe

I'm not going to bother asking why this worked, but it did work like a charm. Thanks. :)
