Steam - Save problem in Ep 3, Black Screen

I installed the complete pack via Steam on Win 7 64bit. I had disabled Steam Cloud sync after finishing Episode 1.

I completed Episode 2, finished 4 chapters of Episode 3, but now I can't load my save. The save file seems to have reverted back to the previous day (it says 3/10, while I have saves in the folder from 3/11), and says that I'm only 3 chapters into Episode 2.

When I select Continue, it asks me if I want to Rewind, and either choice results in a blank screen.

I only have 1 prefs.prop file (from The Walking Dead, anyway).

Please advise. Thanks.

That's odd. The support tool was unable to read the install location from the registry. Therefore the checks for multiple prefs.prop files it did are invalid.

Let's check what's wrong with the registry entry.
Please press the Windows key. Type in "cmd" and press enter

Copy this command line and paste it into the command window, and press enter.
REG QUERY "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telltale Games\WalkingDead101.exe" | clip

clip already copied the output to the clipboard for you, instead of showing it in the terminal. All you have to do now is reply to this thread, make sure the cursor is in the reply input area, and press (CTRL + V) to paste it.


Also, if you .zip and upload your prefs.prop and *.save files i can take a look at them.
Please upload them to an instant filehoster and post the download link.

I did a manual search for prefs.prop, and there's two, one in ...\My Documents\Telltale Games \The Walking Dead and one in ...\Steam\Steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

Should I try renaming the prefs.prop file in the Steam located directory?

Renaming the prefs.prop file in the ...\Steam\Steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default\ folder seems to have done the trick.

I forgot, when doing the search initially, that I have to explicitly tell Win 7 to search the whole computer. And I don't know why the support tool wasn't able to pull the install location, and thus couldn't find it.
