TWD resolution change caused game to not work?
I just put in a ATI Radeon HD 4500 by Asus. The game barely worked with my GeForce 7800. I have Windows 7x64. I purchased the game through Steam.
The game started fine; I went into settings, upped the graphics quality, and started changing resolutions. I must have chosen one my card would not support, because it froze the game and tossed me back to desktop. Now whenever I try to fire it up the game tells me it cannot initialize Direct3D, and that I need a card that supports pixel shader 1.2.
Things I've tried:
uninstalling and reinstalling;
running the Direct3D setup in the game folder;
Verify integrity of game cache;
deleting the prefs.prop file.
I'm thinking I need to reset the resolution, and perhaps the game is reinstalling with my previous settings? Thanks for any help.

Attached is the file... thanks for the help.
Please try using the prefs.prop in the attached .zip archive.
It is set to 800x600 with all graphics settings off/minimal in windowed mode.
I've got pretty much the same issue, but I'd like to retain my save games somehow (if possible).
I've backed up my prefs.prop file and tried the one attached above. It worked, but I couldnt' access saved games.
Anyway I can fix the issue but keep my saves?
What exactly happens?

What happens with my old prefs.prop is just as the OP described:
"The game started fine; I went into settings, upped the graphics quality, and started changing resolutions. Only thing I'd add is that when the game loads, it opens a "The Walking Dead" process in a large blank white window that can't be interacted with. The error above is displayed in a pop up over that window. Closing the pop up also closes the game window. This started when I upped the game resolution to a setting higher than my monitor.
Using the prefs.prop you provided above I've got the game going again and set the graphics looks great (avoiding that resolution). But my saves are gone. If there's a way I can get them back that would be great. Otherwise I guess I can start again (was only on the 1st episode).
If so, make a backup copy of the entire savegame folder including the prefs.prop before doing anything else.
Since the problem started when you changed settings, you can try the "restore previous version" feature on the prefs.prop in the savegame folder (right click, "properties", "restore previous version"). Maybe there's a version from a time just before you changed the settings.
I hadn't backed up the entire dir (Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead) prior to replacing prefs.prop with yours.
However all the .save files in there have modified timestamps earlier then when the issue started. I've now backed them up too.
The "restore previous version" thing didn't work - says there are no previous versions to restore to.
Any other ideas? Or do I need to make a new start?
