Mac game ran fine for a minute now title screen shows up as a crazy jumbled mess

Played the game for a little bit and it ran fine, but then when I went back to the game later it opens to a crazy scene. I have a year and a half old macbook pro and it has no problem running things like borderlands 2 or Half life 2. I've tried redownloading and restarting everything but I'm still getting the same problem.

    Does switching to windowed mode by pressing Command + F help?
