Saved files not working

Problem started yesterday morning after I finished episode 4 and took a break. Came back to start episode 5 and it showed my only saved file was on episode 3. Every option to open or play at any point from this file just results in a black screen. So I decided to start all over, this time I finished episode 2 before going to bed. Just woke up to find out that that saved file says I only completed episode 1. Pretty frustrated and would like some help just to be able to finish this game.

    please try renaming the prefs.prop in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default
    to prefs.prop.bak in order to deactivate it.
