Free 400 Days e-mail

I just got an e-mail informing me I received the 400 Days DLC for free.
But when I opened my game (via Steam) I couldn't download it.

Is it only valid if I install the game through the Telltale installer?

    Correct, you'll only be able to download 400 Days for free via the Telltale installer. You'll find it on the Your Games page (assuming of course you purchased The Walking Dead from the Telltale Games online store). Download the installer, and then you'll be able to download 400 Days from the in-game menu.
