Review roundup: They love bees!
Despite a deluge of GDC-related coverage this week, the premiere episode of Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures still managed to bring in a small mountain of reviews in the days since its release. Based on what we've read so far, "Fright of the Bumblebees" seems to be getting a fair amount of positive buzz (I am so sorry) from the press.
Here a just few small samples of the praise heaped upon Wallace and Gromit's first Telltale adventure:
Jolt - 90%
A credit to the Wallace and Gromit name and I can heartily recommend it.
Pads and Panels - 4.5/5
Wallace & Gromit: Fright of the Bumble Bees is a game that should please both longstanding fans of Telltale and Wallace & Gromit. It is another respectful adaptation of a license done the way only Telltale can.
GotGame.com - 4/5
If this first Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures episode is any indication of what the rest of the series will contain, then I highly recommend it.
Gamezine - 8.5/10
It's a wonderful adventure, a perfect Wallace & Gromit yarn, and I honestly can't recommend it highly enough.
Yahoo! Games UK & Ireland - 4/5
Their finest and best looking video game outing to date … Wallace and Gromit fans won't be disappointed, we think. Likewise those in the market for an adventure that doesn't involve sword, sorcery or steroidal elves. It's cracking stuff in the main, then, and we can't wait to see what the next three adventures bring.
Adventure Classic Gaming - 4/5
I have found the game to be as entertaining as the original claymation shorts, and I look forward to the duo's next cracking adventure.
Adventure Gamers - 4/5
For the Wallace & Gromit superfans, this should be a no-brainer, day one purchase. For everyone else, it's another well-polished episodic adventure of the sort we've come to expect from Telltale, and even if you're not familiar with the source material, it's definitely worth your time.
GamePro Acrade - 4.25/5
Graphics in the title are spot on and really run a parallel to the movies the duo stars in, without question.
GameStooge.com - 5/5
The game is everything an Aardman fan could want.
D+PAD Magazine - 4/5
Bumblebees' story is as full of broad, cheese-obsessed humour as the television specials, and while the majority of players will most likely complete the game within just a few hours, they're certain to enjoy the journey while it lasts.
Electronic Theatre - 88%
The game is superbly animated and looks almost identical to the claymation productions.
