Can the Steam and Telltale Store version can coexist on a same PC?

I preordered the game here, on the TTG Store. As I was not able to start it due to connection issues, I used the Steam key the team graciously offered us and played my game on it. If one day, they were to make a free DLC on the TTG version, or if I want to use the three supplementary save slots, I was wondering if both version (TTGS/Steam) could coexist on the same computer. Will it create interference? Is it risky for my saves? Someone told me the two versions didn't share the same saves, is that true? Do they have common files at all?

    I tried starting up the Telltale version after completing the first episode through Steam. It looks like they're both connected as my save from Steam was in there.
