"An account with that email address was not found in our system"

A friend of mine is trying to create an account to the forums here. After registering, he get the email and click on it. He then just get the following message:
"Sorry, An account with that email address was not found in our system. We were unable to verify your account".
If he tries to register another user it keeps saying his email is already in use.
What did he do wrong?

He has probably figured it out by now... but if not, do what the email says. Copy and paste the link provided in email for verification into the browser and hit enter. It should send him to the right location after that and not have the SORRY screen appear. Hope it helps someone else that might be viewing the question if nothing else.
