  • Really? January? first they say end of november, then, mid december? Oh well, I'm just so excited

  • I think in my opinion. It was complete bull saying they wanted to "Polish the game" The mods created a FAQ sticky about how every "four to eight weeks" Tell Tale broke that record by going on three months. Think about that, three months. It could be released next week on Friday or Next Friday after that. Since that's "Early Jan"

I think had they given us an actual update then just not talking to us. We would been more accepting of whats to come.

  • Once again. A fellow poster on Tell Tale has given us more information then Tell Tale has given us.

Agreed you don't actually save money, just look at steam. The winter sale allowed you to get TWAU for 16.99$ that may not be exact but it was cheaper then pre-ordering.

  • yep and at spring steam sale it will cost about 5$ with only 3 episodes (imo) released.

Thing is that we don't even know if it's going to be released then/near then. For all we know, they could show two screenshots and inform that the next update will be at the end of January, as game apparently needs even more polish.

(Though personally I'd be more much understanding if they communicated better: e.g. if they explained what exactly caused delay - for all we know they could e.g. add storyline branch a few days before announcing planned release, underestimate amount of work it require and be caught with half-completed feature.)

  • The lack of communication has been a real problem as of late. How do you build a game on a foundation of feedback, if they never come on the site to ask us questions or even talk. It seems since they scored a deal with more games. They been quite dismissive. I agree with your points.

It's just Wolf Among Us, was created before the Walking Dead. They had a year to polish it. If it wasn't ready, would it been difficult for them to say so. I can be patient. When they don't say anything. It's kinda difficult.

I can't say to be very familiar with Telltale Games and their developement process. I have not been around since long enough to know what they tend to spill about their work. Well, enough disclaimers. Now to the point: do we really know enough to make assumptions about what was done in this „first phase of developement”?

Looking through TWD and TWAU I had impression that those games are quite similar. Similar enough to transfer people working on TWD to TWAU and vice versa – and I assume that this applies to their other projects as well. Therefore, „developement process” going on for years could mean that e.g. only few people worked on the basics of TWAU, whereas team only got larger (and development process became faster) recently.

Now, some particulars. What I feel couldn't be done until recently:

    • Voices. If they voiced TWAU since the beginning, they would have to redo entire process every time scenario changes: and that would lead either to rejecting changes or huge waste of resources.
    • Matching face expression, lips etc. with voices and such technical details for the above reasons.
    • etc.

(Notice also huge overlap between people voicing TWAU and TWD; I imagine they were quite busy when TWD S2 release date was coming close. Therefore, „man!, I realized we need to voice Minor Character X again! or gamers will notice how he speaks soundless!” could become something of a blocking issue for TWAU.)

It's all pure speculation, but I can believe Telltale is really polishing The Wolf Among Us. Problem is that we, gamers, are presumptive lot and complete silence is like the invitation to lands of presumptions and speculations. (and sometimes those are baseless)

Speaking of presumptions, based on EP 1 giveaway I suspect EP 2 will be released early January [just after update]. I mean... I don't suppose they would gift EP 1 to attract new customers if they envisioned release date to be e.g. in late March. It'd highlight their delays then.

And yeah, I agree that some sort of actual recognition of delay issue & actual info would make a hell lot of update than ones we've seen.

  • True. Most of it is pure speculation. Given their history, and pattern they do business. Even in the FAQ, its confirmed games usually release within four to six weeks. That's why it was so odd, when the game was not only delayed for first time by three months. We weren't informed about a reason.

I'm not a ego manic and I'm sure my fellow posters, aren't either. When we put money down on a pre order. At the very least. I would think we expect some communication on release date. Most I was informed from Puzzlbox reading a response to another poster. She used the words to "polish"

What I think would better serve them is better communication or some communication. This company prides itself on building games based on feedback. Since Season Two of the Walking Dead. They hardly come on, if they do they don't post. It's like they stopped caring or interacting with us on their user names.

They paid someone a ton of cash for this site, so its so odd that they would distance themselves from it. What stuns my mind, they don't bother to come on for five minutes and write a sentence to explain what's going on. I'm sure community supported their games for many years before they had success.

It's like ever since they re-designed the site. They don't come on here. If anything I post is incorrect. Feel free to correct it. Just my solution would be better customer service. They have money from games they signed to hire more staff.

It's so odd. I recently looked at their twitter account. They tweeted a story about NYT doing an article about one of their games, sent Dec 23, etc. They have enough time to send massive amounts of tweets, yet they are dead silent on their own official forums. This has to suck for people who supported their games before they struck had this big success.

I was informed they used to come on the site, talk to people. Now with their success, its almost like they are shunning the very same community that bought their games before their hits. That may be a bitter way of looking at things, so is three months without a word. Enough time to promote, offer Ep1 for free to xbox users.

Yet not enough time to talk with their community. Have they always been like this, or is this just recently.

  • I've only been around since last years release of TWD:S1, but in the time i've spent ghosting the forums and tentatively posting, I've only seen/gotten feedback from forum mods whom, from my understanding, speak on TT's behalf but don't necessarily work for them. That being said, there definitely used to be more interaction between the lines of supply and demand, with Mod's like PuzzleBox frequently responding to user inquires regarding release delays and such. Ever since the drop of TWAU and the announcement of their two new deals (Game Of Thrones and Borderlands, respectively), there has been far less communication. Especially where release delays are concerned. That topic in and of itself seems to have become taboo around these parts, and understandably so I suppose. What with their new investors and all, it's probably in TellTale's best interest to look at their most loyal fanbase's disapproval as a tempest in a teapot and forge on as planned.

  • Yeah. They also lowered the cost of the season pass by around 30 some percent for the remainder of the year. So hopefully this means, as someone else below has mentioned, that they are preparing to drop Ep 2 on us soon.

The FAQ you're referring to is very much unofficial, as it's created by moderators (who aren't employees of Telltale and have no inside information regarding Telltale's release schedule). We can only make guesses, based on Telltale's release history, just like all of the other users of the forum.

Telltale's official The Wolf Among Us FAQ never mentioned any specific time frame.

  • You're right that the moderators at the Telltale forums aren't employees (as we just volunteer some of our free time to help around on the forums).

But the moderators don't actually speak on Telltale's behalf (all of our profiles have disclaimers that state that we are not employees of the company, and that our words are our own, not those of Telltale Games). We used to have the disclaimers in our signatures, which made the distinction between the volunteer moderators and the actual employees of Telltale Games clearer, but unfortunately signatures weren't carried over to the new forum software.

I could tell him he is idiot and he shouldnt register here becouse of his stupid opinions... but im far from my teenages. Mod's like PuzzleBox

Laura is Telltale Staff, not a lowly moderator like we are... ;)

What with their new investors and all

Telltale's games are developed with their own capital, as far as I know. There are no investors involved. Telltale rather develops these games entirely at their own financial risk, then shares the profit with the license holder.

it's probably in TellTale's best interest to look at their most loyal fanbase's disapproval as a tempest in a teapot and forge on as planned.

Of course it is. This is a violent hiccup in their schedule. Telltale's as of yet slowest releasing Season took almost seven months to come out completely. We're heading for three months with episode 2 of TWaU and where are we? Telltale will have to question their own success recipe, the episodic concept, if this keeps up. Regardless whether this is done in press releases or 'just' behind the scenes. They know the extent of this, there has to be an appropriate reaction.

Please check the Forum Guidelines... and leave a thumbs up there to confirm that people actually start reading those... ;)

  • Episode 2 is nearly here. I think we will get it in the next 2 weeks.

  • I think we should refrain from saying "we will get it next week or xxxxxxxx days" because we all know how much crap that brought along with TWS Season 2 episode 1 awhile back

  • I hope we will get Episode 2 the first week of 2014. A man can dream right...

  • The long wait between episodes have not been good. I mean I'm just not excited for ep 2 of TWAU anymore.

  • Allright The game .... Its fucking great, but leaving all the fans waiting for 2nd episode.... for so long?Im starting to forget what was the first episode about cuz I played it almost 3 months ago... and besides at this time...december 28th we should be expecting like 3rd episode to come out maybe even 4th one .... not 2nd...I hate waiting ... and for this long,on such an amazing game like this...I hope they release it like few days afther new year cuz the story is totall nailbitter so Im hoping it comes out soon.

  • Fear not. I gather it will be released. Earliest Jan 3 and latest I figure the next friday after that. Any longer would be breaking their promise of "Early Jan" and..we ..know..they all make their deadlines...

  • That's an excellent point. I can't believe, I overlooked that. Before they released The Walking Dead, they announced an update on a certain day at a certain time. Turns out it wasn't the actual release of the game. It was a video preview, the actual game released a week later.

It doesn't say released. It say's update. This could turn out to take maybe even longer depending on what's going on. We don't know ..because they don't communicate expect on twitter...

I thought the only thing they promised was an update?

  • Why would they take your money for the complete episodes of season 2 in the Apple App Store and not be ready to give you what you paid for? They re taking 14.99 from hooked players for episodes 2-5 and they don't even exist? Wow.

  • Telltale's games are episodic, similar to a television show. The season pass works the same as buying a season pass for a television show on an online distribution service (such as iTunes or Xbox Live Marketplace) before the whole season has been released. You get the episodes that are out at the time that you purchased the season pass, and then get the other episodes once they have released.
