The Walking Dead: Season 2 (GreenmanGaming.com key)

If I buy The Walking Dead: Season 2 on GreenmanGaming.com can I swap the Activation Key they give me for a Steam Key?

I like having all my games in one place but Greenman Gaming is running a sale on it.

  • I've sent an email. Hoping it works out. I'm totally happy to pay a few dollars to exchange the key.

  • i also bought my game like a dumbass from GMG thinking it's cheaper and i would get a steam key, as they have done in the past with walking dead games. it's my fault for not actually reading what was on the store page, but it would be nice if telltale gave out steam keys.

    just sayin ^^

  • Any word on this, after receiving a steam key from GMG, I did not expect a TTG key. I much prefer having all of my games on the same support system,

Unfortunately we do not have Steam keys to give out. Please note that your Season 1 Steam saves will work with your Season 2 Telltale Games download. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm in the same boat. I expected a Steam key just like other purchases in the past from GMG. Then I find out it doesn't work and that it's a Telltale games key and they won't issue a refund. So, as far as GMG is concerned, they will never see another penny from me. It's my fault that I didn't read the details as closely as I should have. But, I'm done with them.

As far as Telltale is concerned, I am pretty disappointed that I needed to create and login to another system to use their game unlike Season 1. Plus, they are apparently unwilling to issue Steam keys to allow use on my system of choice. This might be my last Telltale game as well.... certainly my last pre-order.

  • I feel like a idiot buying from this promo.. i was even more stupid redeeming the key to see if the TTG site whould provide the steam key after... but i guess i'm screwd..

i'm very disapointed with the whole sitiuation, i dont even want to play it anymore

  • What makes it even worse is that i cant even log in to the game now.

Agreed was able to get keys for previous games via support and now you're not giving them out? As an achievement hunter this SUCKS and really puts me off from buying anymore of your games telltale :( OH And we cant get a refund because it's a digital key... :/

  • I'd also like to add that some of the replies I've been getting from support have been rather contradictory, I'm really not impressed :|

I was explicitly told yesterday by Telltale Support that I will be able to receive a Steam key.

  • It has been extremely contradictory, and Telltale support seems unresponsive so far. I don't want to accuse them of ignoring the contradictions, but I would like a response eventually.

  • I made this same exact mistake, thinking I'd get a Steam key. I wouldn't mind paying extra to the full price for the Steam Key as well, since I bought it with the GMG sale. It's just where my library of 300+ games are, so it just makes sense to keep it all together for me (I've still skipped out on Mass Effect 3 for this reason....).
Anyway, just gonna wait to be absolutely sure there's no change... after some consideration, I think I won't be touching my game until I know for certain if I can redeem my GMG/TTG code for a Steam key and will otherwise just give it to my friend... then either save up a bit again and buy it from Steam, or wait for a sale.

  • I made the same mistake . . . but we shouldn't expect to receive some keys (I will be forced to buy it again :( on steam).

  • Well to be fair they offered the steam keys before and without any warning they stopped giving them out so this is strictly a customer service issue and not a customer issue, please announce changes like this telltale because you're kind of screwing people over here :(

  • I got the same reply but then I sent my TTG code and didn't get a response yet. I guess they believed they'd get the Steam keys but didn't.

  • it clearly said on the GMG site that you needed a Telltale game account, and did not mention this being on Steam. Customer failure to read and comprehend is not a Telltale Customer Support issue.

Yes, I want a Steam key as well, but if I buy one when it does not state it is one, then tough excrement.

  • I agree.. but what's even stupider is the gamer obsession with Steam. I mean... I'd like a Steam key too... it's nice to have games together, I like simple installs, I like the achievements, etc.

But some people act like a game without Steam is unplayable and worthless and that mentality isn't good for PC gaming. When in history was having a monopoly good for the costumer? Steam is becoming too powerful and they will use their power because they know that few developers/publishers can afford not to have their games on Steam. In fact, the DLC exclusivity issue which likely caused the EA removal is something that wouldn't happen if Steam wasn't so big.

  • I've iterated benefits of Steam here (9 points, #9 being of great benefit to Telltale): http://www.telltalegames.com/community/discussion/comment/892836#Comment_892836

It's not an obsession, it's personal preference. I (and a lot of other people) feel that it dramatically changes the experience. I'm still sitting on my TTG key and have not activated it yet. I will either sell/trade it, or ideally Telltale will realize that customer satisfaction trumps trying to force people unwillingly into their ecosystem.

You can try and blame it on the customer if you want, but if they gave out steam keys for people on s1 of the walking dead and the wolf among us and then just decided to stop doing so for s2 without any forewarning then it's telltales fault and not the customers. I'm not slating the game in any way, since I loved season 1 to bits but I just get so disappointed when I see a company screw customers over for whatever reason.

Isn't it rather GMG who sold Telltale product codes instead of Steam Keys this time?
I have no inside knowledge what's going on in the background, but that's what I would think.

  • The responsibility lies with you, the customer. You need to read up on the terms and conditions of purchase. If they start or stop with Steam keys is up to Telltale, and up to you to keep yourself informed.

  • GMG clearly stated on their page you need a telltale game acct. to play this game, nowhere do they mention it's a Steam key, which they do with Steam keys.

  • I wanted to play on steam as well...not a happy customer here.

  • Please be a stuck tape more, the issue here is with the sudden change in policy on the companies side not the consumers side if you've read previous posts on the forums you'd see that ALOT of people were expecting steam keys and even some of the cs reps thought they'd be able to give out keys.

This is highly disappointing, and totally the opposite of the reply Cyanpepper got from Telltale. I just wish they could take a unified stance on this matter. Much as I love Telltale games, I am certainly going to think twice before buying another game in the future.

Our policy has changed, and we are no longer providing Steam keys for customers who have bought our game through third-party websites.

  • Customer support at it's finest. Great job.

Shame that no more money will go to you guys from me but oh well.

  • Wow, that's quite a customer service stance. You better enjoy the revenue you got from me (and quite a few others). You will never see another penny of my money.

I apologize for the inconvenience. If you wish to purchase the game on the Steam platform, you can purchase it directly through Steam.

Yea, between their stance on this issue and that, for some reason, they prohibit posting of messages from their own staff on their own forum, shows that anything they say can't be trusted.

Sounds like we should make sure we post all of their customer service messages on a public gaming forum so that everyone can see their lack of trustworthiness.

    It's too bad really...
