Signs me out, device storage lost, black screen

Just bought TWD (Complete Season on 360 disc). I was able to save progress thru episode 3. Now i try to load the next episode and it logs me out and says device storage lost. Great games are meant to be played. Any suggestions to fix issue

I apologize for the inconvenience, can you please clarify what version Xbox you have? How many GigaBytes? Did you possibly turn off your system during an Autosave by accident?

  • I have the older version of the Xbox 360 with 60 GB hard drive.

We are aware of an issue with the save game files, and unfortunately the only way to solve this is to delete an older save slot that you are not using any more to allow space to continue your playthrough on another slot. I apologize if this causes an inconvenience for you.

  • There was only one save slot being used at time of issue. So basically the only solution is to delete my entire game progression and totally start over from the beginning???

How much space is left on your hard drive? If there isn't enough space on your drive for new save data, that may be the underlying issue.

I've been running into a similar problem but on 400 days and at the start of tavia's chapter

  • If it's signing you out of XBL then saying storage device lost, delete and recover your gamer tag - as per this forum post: http://www.telltalegames.com/support/discussion/53138/xbox-360-storage-device-lost-error-problem-loading-save-try-this

Try it and let me know if it fixes the problem.

  • Come on TelltaleMike.

This is a problem that has been going on for over a year now and all you guys still can't fix it?

Season One on the Xbox 360 is unplayable for me because of the storage device lost error.

To repeat information provided a long time ago, it is the downloaded version of season one. A Xbox 360 Elite with a 120gb hard drive with over 60gb free space.

I've deleted and recovered my profile. Cleared the cache and removed all traces of the game. Yet I start playing and boom "Storage Device Lost."

Quite frankly it is a joke that you've not been able to fix this problem for so long.

I apologize for the inconvenience, can you please clarify what version Xbox you have? How many GigaBytes? Did you possibly turn off your system during an Autosave by accident?

  • That is one of the things I tried Panic and it didn't work.

You can also try backing up your save data to an external device, and then deleting the save data from your hard drive, and then place the save data back onto your hard drive, and reinstalling the game fresh. Then launch the game and see if it reads the save files.

  • If you have a look back at one of the many threads, those that your team didn't delete at any rate, you'll see that is one of the things that I tried.

I genuinely do apologise if I am coming across as rude but after a year my patience is wearing a little thin. It speaks well to the quality of your writing team that I bought season 2.

If you have played through the game multiple times, or have rewound the game a lot, it's more likely for the 'Storage Device' error to appear. At this time, the only way to stop this error is to delete some of your data. There are 2 possible ways to do this below:

    1) Delete the save data in save slots 2 & 3 from within The Walking Dead. (You may wish to back-up the data first)

    2) If deleting the save data in the save slots does not resolve the issue, you may want to delete the save data from your storage device. (Go to your Settings on the dashboard, and click on Storage, then choose your storage device that you are saving on, select “games and apps”, then select “The Walking Dead.” In The Walking Dead scroll down and delete the Save Data. You may want to back-up this data before deleting it)

  • Thank you for the response but that is among one of the many things that I have tried with no success.

I removed every trace of the game from my console. I cleared the cache to remove updates. Deleted the entire folder from my hard drive, game and saves included.

Downloaded the game and episodes again. Accepted the update once LIVE prompted me for it. Played through to episode 2 with no problem. Reached the point where someone comes back in the back of the pick-up and...."Storage Device Lost."

    Cue much swearing from me.

As I've also pointed out during the last year this issue has been affecting me, I am able to play on another profile without any issues. I can play through episodes one to five and 400 Days and never see the error. Yet play it on the account which bought the damn thing and it is plagued by the Storage Device Lost error.

  • Ok so I started off getting a problem through episode 4, it would keep saying 'youre storage device has been lost returning you to main menu' so I assumed it was corrupted as I couldn't get past it for 3 hours! So I started again...I'm now at episode 4 again! And this time I can't even play it! I've gone from episode 1 through 3 fine and the second I hit episode 4 it signs me out completely out of Xbox live and says my storage device is lost? Please tell me that this can be fixed because I am not starting again a third time! I have only one file which is on file slot 1 and I don't know what to think anymore? Someone please help

Please try Deleting the save data in any save slots not in use from within The Walking Dead and see if you are able to see your save game data in your preferred save slot. (You may wish to back-up the data first)

  • Seriously, what is wrong with this company? HOW are you making games with this massive amount of constant problems I've been reading about the last hour? Its 2015 now and some of these posts are 3 years old. I bought the shit disc version of season one and had to return because of the crap hitching. So now i downloaded episode 1 and 2 and can't play episode 2. It just signs me out and returns me to episode 1. Seriously you guys need to give up making games already. Worst game experience I've ever had.

I apologize for any difficulties caused by this. Can you please clarify if you still had existing save data/update data on your Xbox 360 from the disc version of the game after you downloaded the Digital Download version of the game? If so, this data may still be affected from your previous issue, and will need to be deleted. After you have deleted the old data, you will be able to start a new game, and you will not experience this particular issue again.
