TWD Season 2 crashes at connection screen

First of all, I need to say that this is my first time ever playing a computer game since the days when games were only on CD's, so I don't know game terminology or procedures. I got the game from the Telltale website. I am playing on Mac 10.8.5. When I try to start the game, I get as far as the "click to begin" page. When I click it, I get a "Connecting" message. Then, the game crashes. I don't get an error message from Telltale, but I do get a crash report from my computer to send to Apple. What's going on?

    PS, my computer meets the minimum requirements for the game.

    Does it still crash if you disconnect from the internet?
