Season 1 saves not recognised
Ok, I've read the FAQs regarding this etc. But to no avail. I have a full set of saves from season 1 and a prop file. Season 2 does not see these saves.
My windows username is the same, the location the saves are stored has not changed, however I have uninstalled the walking dead season 1 and reinstalled it a few weeks back.
Is there any way of getting my saves registered so season 2 picks them up?

Hi,
Ran the tool and link below.

I don't see a full set of saves. It should be about 70 files but it's just about 20. Also the prefs.prop is so small it can't have the information of a full playthrough. Do you have a savegame backup somewhere or is that in the savegame folder all there is?
Thats weird, thats all there is. The dates on the save games match when I completed the game. Does that mean its un-recoverable?
Generally yes.
There's one small chance though:
Please disable steam cloud for TWD (In Steam, right click TWD and select "properties". Open the tab "updates" and remove the checkbox from "Enable Steam cloud synchronization for TWD").
Then try the "restore previous version" feature (right click, "properties", "restore previous version") on the savegame folder ( %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead ). If there are multiple versions try restoring each of them starting with the latest. If the prefs.prop is much bigger than 10KB chances are best it's the correct set of savefiles.
I unticked ""Enable Steam cloud synchronization for TWD" but there doesn't seem to be a "restore previous version" option within steam.....there is a restore option on the twd folder. However, I have Acronis and this has replaced the standard windows file restore option. I checked and there are no restores to regress to. Shall i give up? Is there any way of getting the steam saved games off of steam? Also, the saved games still work for 400 days which i never completed. If I complete that will it have my choices? and then be recognised by episode 2?
The option is supposed to be on the savegame folder. I don't know what Acronis does with that. But since you have Acronis, do you have any system backup that could have the files?
The files you have are already the steam files, since you had steam cloud on.
I don't know what the state of your current savegame is. Does it show the correct stats for all previous episodes?
Since I reinstalled the game they all stated "Installed", I found a trick involving editing the time date stamp and reloaded episode 1 near the end from one of the save games. The last save game I had wouldn't open as none of the other episodes had been completed. Thats why i'm wondering if I complete 400 days from the save game which followed on from episode 6...would that hold my choices?
No other restores, I've already gone back to the files from just after I completed the game in 2012
I created a new game, jumped to 400 days and generated choices for episodes 1-6 and then played 1 mission "Bonnie". I then switched to season 2 and it still didn't recognise any save games.....I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't another problem going on. I think I'll just generate choices in season 2, not ideal but it doesn't look like its going to pick up a save even if I replay the whole of season 1.
I was not asking for the installation status of the episodes, but for the stats where it shows your choices. You can normally see those after selecting a save slot on the episode select screen. The "stats" option is missing if it's random generated decisions though.
The time stamp workaround doesn't restore decisions or previous episodes, it just let's you load and play a certain .save file, which doesn't help in getting consistent savegames. The important stuff is in the prefs.prop. Currently that's the only files season 2 reads from the season 1 savegame folder.
I suggest you try deleting the entire season 1 savegame folder, and then start a season 1 Episode 2 game to let it generate Episode 1 descisions. Then try if season 2 can see this save slot.
Also your season 2 doesn't seem to be properly installed. At least the support tool didn't find it. I suggest you also delete the season 2 savegame folder and try uninstalling and reinstalling it, so it has the proper settings.
If it still can't find the season 1 test save slot, please name the install path of season 2, and run the support tool again.
I have redirected my "my documents" in windows 8 to a different file path than teh default "C:\Users\username\Documents".
Could that be an issue? My "My documents" is currently located at "E:\My Documents".
Does the game know to look here? or is it a hard coded path to search for save games? I copied the saved game folder back to the standard path as I thought it might be an issue but it still doesn't find it.
My Choices on season 2 has a pad lock against it. When clicked nothing happens.
I deleted the season 1 saved game folder and reran the game. I then opened season 1 and started episode 2. let it get a while in so we have some saved game info....and then exited and loaded season 2 which still does not find a saved game.
The games are installed to the following install path:
H:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\The Walking Dead Season Two
E:\Pauls Documents\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead
Saved games to here:
E:\Pauls Documents\My Games\telltale games\The Walking Dead
E:\Pauls Documents\My Games\telltale games\The Walking Dead Season Two
I deleted the E:\Pauls Documents\My Games\telltale games\The Walking Dead Season Two folder and uninstalled and reinstalled season 2. I reinstaled season 2 to a new path:
E:\Pauls Documents\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead
Unfortunately it still says it cannot find any saves from season 1.
I notice that the tool searches in C:\users\username and then the game directory, i.e e:\documents\games\steam\steamapps\common\walking dead. It doesn't search the save game folder. Is that correct?
Tool results as below:

Since your documents folder is "E:\Pauls Documents" the savegames are stored in
E:\Pauls Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
and
E:\Pauls Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two
And that's also where the games look for them.
It is always relative to the documents folder. If you want them somewhere else, you need to move the documents folder somewhere else.
I currently don't see anything that looks like a complete playthrough of season 1 anywhere the support tool looks. The prefs.prop should be above 60KB in size in that case and there should be roughly 70 .save files at least.
If you have a backup of your savegames copy it to
E:\Pauls Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
I am not sure if you know how the savegames are imported. You won't just see anything in the "My choices" menu of season 2 or a existing saveslot. You need to start a new game in season 2, then it will ask you which season 1 saveslot it should import.
The "My choices" menu will show the season 2 choices after you played it. The season 1 choices may appear in "previously on" parts or somewhere in the game.
Yep, I've tried to start a new game in season 2 and when it scans for previous saved games it doesn't find any. The save games and prefs.prop are the result of completing season 1 in 2012 and then partially completing 400 days in 2013. I think from what you are saying is that this is not recoverable and for what ever reason it does not look like my saved games are as they should be so restoring them into season 2 is not possible. If you can confirm there's nothing else we can do I can get started on season 2 with random data generated.
Yes, that is the case unless you have other savegames somewhere. Otherwise here are 3 sets of TWD season 1 savegames from other users you can try. Maybe you can find something close to your decisions by checking the stats. You have to disable steam cloud for TWD before copying them to the savegame folder.
If season 2 doesn't see them either, you can create another new windows administrator user account and try it there.
