Please do a search on your computer for prefs.prop. You should only have one copy of this file in your save game directory. If you find another copy elsewhere, this needs to be removed. Usually this duplicate file can be found in either a Gamedata folder adjacent to your save directory, or in your installation folder. If you are playing on Steam, you will need to find the Walking Dead game data within your Steam installation folder. If you remove this prefs file, but still experience the issue, then it's possible the duplicate file is being recognized instead of the prefs in your save directory. Please take the duplicate file and move it into your save folder (which will overwrite the existing file). You may want to back-up both of these files before attempting this process, just in case.

Unfortunately, if this does not resolve your issue, then your prefs file has most likely been corrupted. This is rare, but can happen if the save is compromised (for example, if the game crashes during an autosave, or if the game is closed using Task Manager). If this is the case, then the corrupted prefs can no longer be used and should be removed from your computer to prevent any further complications.

  • Ya, I am not great on computers so you are going to have to dumb this down and walk me through it. I typed 'pref.prop' into the finder and got nothing. I checked the "steam" folder in the Applications menu and couldn't see the 'pref.prop' in there. So I have no idea what to do now?

You have a prefs.prop file in Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/TheWalkingDead/prefs.prop . You also have a prefs.prop file in Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/The Walking Dead/ . If you are playing on Steam, you should only have the second one. Please backup both on your desktop, and then remove the one with the older timestamp and restart the game. If your issue is not resolved, then it is the other prefs.prop file that is the correct one. Replace the first one with the second one, and you should be able to continue your save. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Please also try launching the game again, and when the black screen appears, try switching the game to Windowed Mode, by using the Mac shortcut (CMD+F). This should switch it to Windowed Mode, and then you will be able to go to the Options Menu, and change the resolution to a lower setting, then you can switch it back to Full Screen mode by using the CMD+F shortcut again.

  • Okay tried that but there is no options menu at the top, just a tab for walkingdead101 which give the choice of fullscreen minimise and quit. Also I have already had one successful playthrough on the original resolution so shouldn't that be okay then?

I apologize for any difficulties this has caused. Please try opening a Finder window again, then once the window is open, please click on Go at the top, and while your mouse cursor is hovering over Go, press and hold the option key. Library should now show up on the drop down menu of Go. Please click on Library. Then click on Application Support, and then Telltale Games. Once in the Telltale Games folder you should see all of your Telltale Games game folders there, including The Walking Dead. From within your Telltale Games folder, do a search for prefs.prop. You should only have one associated with The Walking Dead: Season One. If you have more, please look for the prefs.prop file with the correct time stamp from when it was last working for you. Then copy that file into the 'TheWalkingDead' folder, and click and drag it to your desktop, and start the game. Your issue should now be resolved.

This may be an issue with your original prefs.prop file, or possibly a corrupted save file. I suggest looking again for any extra prefs.prop files from within the same folder, and make sure you do not have multiple. If you don't, it may be a corrupted save.

It may be a corrupted save, and in that case the safest thing to do would be to delete your save files, and do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game. I sincerely apologize for any difficulties this causes you.
