So how /should/ I be playing Bigby?

I realize this is largely subjective, but I've only actually read a small amount of the Fables canon (first TPB + random other stories). My take on Bigby is that he's not a jerk for the sake of being a jerk, and probably not going to resort to violence if it would be counter-productive. I've been playing him almost like a world-weary Law & Order detective--somebody who is going to get pissed off if you play games with him, but will treat you decently if you play ball. Is that generally a correct read?

  • E.g., in the interrogation scene with Dee, I didn't go all medieval on him, since I didn't really believe that whatever he was hiding was going to indicate who the murderer was--didn't believe he really knew anything too useful to the main investigation.

In my opinion, its all relative. Whatever way you play Bigby is correct, since this game is all about your decisions!
    You can play Bigby as:

    A) How you believe he's portrayed canonically in the comic series
B)Play him as yourself. Make decisions and react to situations in a manner you would.
    C) OR role-play as some other personality.

I usually make decisions based on my personality, so my Bigby is going on redemption spree. Unfortunately I haven't read the comics yet, so I don't know how Bigby is ACTUALLY portrayed, but your sounds pretty good to me.

  • Since he's a prior established character, I just can never help wondering what was supposed to be the "canonical" response. I guess maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe if a choice is offered at all, it's an indication that the Bigby of canon might have done it depending upon which way the wind was blowing.

  • Generally Bigby in the comics gets things done without violence, but the threat of violence looms around him all the time. He's very self-assured and knows how to intimidate people, but he is ultimately just and fair in his dealings with people. It takes a lot to get him truly angry, because he's been through it all before.
