S01; saves gone and can't progress to E02

Hi folks,

so I recently bought both 400 days and the S02 pass and wanted to start playing with my old S01 saves. However all of my saves were broken. They were still being displayed with the last date I played them but didn't contain any actual data.
This alone I find very annoying.

But I started to replay S01 anyways because I don't want to start the new content without save games from S01. However, I can't progress from E01 to E02. When I try to start E02 the games displays the box about rewinding. I have tried both accepting and denying the rewind but no matter what I do, I end up with a black screen.

Can anyone help?

After looking over your support tool, it seems that you have two prefs.prop files associated with The Walking Dead: Season One.

The first one is located in:

    C:\Users\Pascal\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

which is your full playthrough. The second one is located in:

    C:\Users\Pascal\Documents\The Walking Dead

which looks like an older file. Please rename the second one to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, and start Season One, and your complete playthrough should be present, and should now be able to import successfully into Season Two.

  • Unfortunately, that did not fix it.

I first renamed the prefs.prop file in "C:\Users\Pascal\Documents\The Walking Dead" to pref.prop.bak and started the game. Nothing had changed.
So I changed that file back and renamed the other one. But that did not do anything either.
However, I noticed that after starting the game for the second time a third prefs.prop had appeared in "C:\Users\Pascal\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead".

That is because the prefs.prop file in C:\Users\Pascal\Documents\The Walking Dead is not being read, as it is not in the \Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead folder. I recommend moving that one there, and then restart the game to see if this is the correct file. Please also move the newly created prefs.prop file to your desktop, or delete it, as it was only made because it did not find a prefs.prop file in the specified folder.

  • I deleted the newly created file. Then I moved the pref.prop from C:\Users\Pascal\Documents\The Walking Dead to the other folder.

Sadly, my old saves are still not accessible.
However, now something different happens when I try to start playing Episode 2! The "are you sure you want to rewind" box does not appear and some background audio starts playing. The screen remains black but the inventory is visible and it seems like I'm carrying an axe. The game appears to remain stuck at that point.

This black screen issue is usually associated with a prefs.prop file either being duplicated, or corrupted. If you are unable to use either of the prefs.prop files you had, I recommend deleting the prefs.prop files, as well as your save files, as they may have become corrupted, then start again. I apologize for any difficulties this may cause you.

  • Ok, so I deleted EVERYTHING and started from scratch.

Now, another problem has reared its ugly head: I can play chapter 2 but it won't save my progress.

Seriously what is this? How can this be so bugged?!

My apologies, if you would like to run the support tool again with your new playthrough data, I would be glad to look over it for you.
