Yet another unable to import PC saves from season 1 problem

I've been all over the internet trying to solve this problem and I've tried every suggestion with no fix. But my set up is a little different from others.

So I bought The Walking Dead season 1 for the PC via Steam. Played through all of it with no issues including the 400 DLC and every new episode saw the saves of the previous with no issues.

So I also bought Season 2 via Steam and it does NOT import the saves from season 1. Now when I say my set up is different is because I have my Documents folder for my Windows 7 pointing to a network share. But that is where my Telltale game saves are and season 1 sees the game saves with no problems. Also season 2 puts its walking dead season 2 folder in the same location automatically.

\Server002\disk01\Backups\My Documents 2\Telltale Games

So I read that the default location it looks for is "For PC: C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead"
So I copied my season 1 game saves including the prefs.prop file to that default location and no go. I changed my documents library location in Windows 7 from my network path to the local default path above and still same issue. I copied all my season 1 save files and put them in the season 2 save file location and same issue.

I am not using any kind of Windows compatibility mode and again, when I go and open up season 1 game, it does show my saved status so it does see the save files.

What else can I do to fix this ???

I apologize for the inconvenience. Both Season One, as well as Season Two should be installed in the correct file directory in order for your Season One saves to be imported successfully. The correct file paths are below:

    C:\Users\%YourName%\Documents\Telltale Games\the walking dead

    C:\Users\%YourName%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead - Season Two

After transferring the files over to the above file paths, please try starting the game again, and see if your saves are able to be imported.

So I copied both season 1 and 2 save folders to this directory:

    C:\Users\main\Documents\Telltale Games

Here is the path to those subfolders:

    C:\Users\main\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

C:\Users\main\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two

    And still no fix.

I recommend running the Support Tool again with your new file structure set up, and I can see if there are any issues that I can see to try and help resolve your issue. Please run the tool again, and copy and paste the download link in a reply in this thread.

As of now, your saves are being read from the folder

    \Server002\disk01\Backups\My Documents 2\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

Please make sure to have your .save files as well as your prefs.prop file copied and pasted into

    C:\Users\main\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

then please rename the prefs.prop file in the Server002 folder to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then start the game again.

  • I do have a copy of the save files and prop file in:
    C:\Users\main\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

I renamed the prefs.prop in server002 network path to prefs.prop.bak and still the same issue.

So what I'm gathering is that Walking Dead season 2 does not like the documents folder being on a network path. I already tried changing the documents folder default location back to the original local location and that still did not fix it. I'm guessing the issue is that the season 1 game was installed with my documents folder being on the network path.

So if that is the case, is there no way to have the season 2 game MANUALLY point the local folder default folder ? Since as you see from the tool, no matter what I do, it keeps looking for the network path and season 2 game does not read correctly from the network path.

Also I already tried completely uninstalled the season 2 game and reinstalling with no fix. I'm afraid to uninstall season 1 and re-install since I do not want to lose my saves but if there is a way to preserve the saves, can I try changing the documents location back to the default local location, uninstall season 1 and re-install it (this is all via steam) would THAT help the season 2 game to see the saves correctly ?

Yes, you can uninstall the game from steam by right-clicking the game, and clicking on Delete Local Content. This will not delete your saves in the process.
