How much did Telltale change the story?

In the original script, Episode 3 was about detective Brannigan. In the final version of the game we did not see her in this episode. How much did Telltale change the story and will we see her again?

  • I suspect we won't find out for quite some time, if at all. I doubt it's the sort of thing Telltale will want to share.

  • A lot, in my opinion!!

Looks to me like they removed a whole subplot involving Brannigan suspecting Bigby and finding out about Fabletown, probably why the episodes are so freaking short

  • I think episode 3, was going to be more about Brannigan and Lawrence, if you saved him. But now playing it, just watching Nerissa crying - got scary LOL.

  • It's possible Brannigan will reappear, because it seems like the Tweedles are keeping a file on her, if I remember correctly.

After playing episode 3, I am pretty sure that the whole delay between eps 1 and 2 happened because of removing this storyline. Judging from the preview at the end of episode 1, the confrontation with Crane and Tweedle brothers (if you arrested the Woodsman) was supposed to happen (albeit in different circumstances) in episode 2. Besides, the achievement 'Can I get a fresh set of towels?' picture from ep 2 shows Holly with a bridge in the background, so my guess is that the funeral scene was supposed to happen earlier. My guess is that the Brannigan storyline was removed, leaving a gaping hole in the story, so Telltale split the original story for Episode 2 between the second and the third and added several small scenes, but not enough of them - that's why both eps are so short.

  • I'm really missing Detective Brannigan... they should bring her back for SOMETHING... I think that the reason that Smoke & Mirrors took so long is because almost the whole plot of TWAU had to be re-written because of the Brannigan subplot. Maybe in the original version she found out about Fabletown and is hunting down Bigby? IDK. We better get some answers, though. I'm #1 Brannigan fan.

  • Yeah , i think they rewrote the entire season. There is a lot of unused lines , especially in Episode 2

  • It's a real shame they seem to have removed Brannigan's part in the story. I wonder what caused it. We probably won't find out, but it would be nice to.

  • Probably because involving Brannigan would've changed the players' attention from the conflict Mundys - Fables, while they wanted it to stay focused on the problems within Fabletown.

It would've been a nice subplot, but probably they found it subtracted too much time to the main plot. Or simply figured out bthey couldn't channel it well with the following episodes

  • I would love it if after they've released all 5 episode that they then release a "gamers" pack which has all the original gameplay and ideas in it. Would love to see what they initially had planned

  • What important role does that detective play, since some of you would like to see her again? I mean, at least, probably I missed something. All she did was interrogate me.

  • Maybe. Or maybe they weren't allowed to do it? I don't know. I would've really loved that subplot though. I was kind of hoping the car at the end of Ep3 would be Brannigan and a bunch of mundies.

  • In episode two when crane busts you out of the interrogation room nobody picks up the tape recording, the spell just wipes their minds nothing else. So brannigan probably listened to it again to see why she's asleep in an interrogation room hears herself talking to a man called bigby wolf about the murder of miss white. Being a standard cop she's going to investigate why her suspect suddenly vanished. Or the tape records bigby and crane talking about the spell so she's gone looking for them and is hunting bigby down.
In the original script for episode 2 brannigan was supposed to be following bigby but they cut her out for some odd reason.

  • Perhaps what they changed in episode 2 they will show in episodes 4 or 5. ?

I don't remember Dee saying this

  • Am I the only one that thought Bloody Mary looked a LOT like Detective Brannigan? Not identical, mind you, but really really similar.

  • You're not the only one. Somebody already started a thread on it elsewhere.

  • Where did you get the original script?
Anyway, its probably for the best. Sometimes you want to go one way with something but in viewing it, it just does not work.

  • Same base model as Georgie and Jack. Maybe Hans too. I forget.

  • How do you know Brannigan isn't Bloody Mary?
Both start with a B, both have same facial structure, theres a thing as clip on earrings - defines point about the pierced ears, that theory is ruled out. Maybe Brannigan's nose bleed was Bloody Mary and she can bleed anytime she want or something ROFLMAO!!

They probably dropped the Brannigan sub-plot since they figured it diverted too much time and resources from the conflict within Fabletown itself. The good thing about that is due to the nature of the plot, it could easily be recycled into a second season of Wolf Among us if they ever do one.

  • Ok people, here's what I don't get.

Why is everyone mourning the possible loss of a character and subplot that we know NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT?

What exactly do we have to go on? There's a brief scene with her in episode 2 and a random picture and that's it. Why are people saying "Oh I totally love Brannigan" and "Oh this plot would have been amazing!"?

We have absolutely no idea what, if any role this character may have had or may possibly still have!

How about this for an idea? What if Telltale possibly cut something like this because (and just go with me here) maybe it wasn't very good? Maybe the plot wasn't working out and maybe it was detracting from the whole, I don't know, major story line?

What if including lengthy scenes with Brannigan stole precious focus away from Bigby and Snow and all the crazy gang we paid good money to hang out with?

If Telltale has or had some grand plan with Branngian, I hope we see it or at least get a sense of it later on. I hope that Brannigan pops up again by the end of the season along with the red haired man and every other awesome character.

But if she doesn't? Well who cares? Her one scene so far was nothing to write home about and certainly nothing to suggest she'd be that interesting to spend time with.

  • I'm a little upset we might have missed some of her story but it telltale took it out maybe it was for the best. After all they know best what should and shouldn't be in the game.

  • Nice justification, well said! This and some other things made me think that even if Telltale did stick with the Brannigan branch of the story, we probably wouldn't have had the privilege of seeing B.M. at all! So maybe the cuts were necessary to add more interesting characters to the game!

  • maybe that will be the plot for season 2....if they make one, which i really hope they do.
