TWD Season 2 Episode 3: Can't find any saves

I've been trying to play the newly released episode three, but I'm having the same issue I did when episode one came out. The game can't find my decisions from season one. Furthermore, it can't seem to find/I don't seem to have any saves of the first two episodes of season 2.

I can live with playing over the first two episodes of Season 2, but at the very least, I would like to be able to recover my season 1 saves.

I've bought both games through steam. The only thing I've tried so far is to copy the prefs.prop file from the telltale folder to the steam folder. I also tried the "try it 4-10 and eventually it'll work", but it didn't.

EDIT: I've began to run TWD PC Support Tool in case that'll help.

We are currently looking into why this issue is occurring for Steam players, and hope to have a resolution for the issue in the near future. If you can, please post your support tool file when you can. (Links are currently not working, but if you post the download link, I will be able to see it.)

    Here you go (I think).

I see what you mean about the links not working. Just gotta put the "http" where it goes, as I'm sure you know.

    Thanks for the help!

Thank you for providing your information. It looks as if your computer has multiple prefs.prop files, which may be causing this issue.

Please try naming the prefs.prop file in Documents\Games\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two to prefs.prop.bak and this will disable it. Please try launching Season 2 again, and your save may now be recognized. If this does not resolve the issue, please go to Documents\telltale games\The Walking Dead Season Two and rename the prefs.prop file in there to prefs.prop.bak. Then go back to Documents\Games\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two and rename the file back to prefs.prop and move it to Documents\telltale games\The Walking Dead Season Two. Then try launching Season 2 again.

If the above suggestion does not resolve the issue please check if you have Steam cloud saves enabled. (You can check this by right clicking on the game in your Steam library, clicking properties, and click the updates tab. Near the bottom of the page, you can see if the Steam cloud is enabled for The Walking Dead: Season 2.) If it is enabled, does disabling it, and restarting Steam allow you to access your saves?

Please check the other save slots within the game to see if your saves may be present in another save slot.

Are you able to access the My choices screen from the main menu, and are your choices from previous episodes present, or is the My choices page locked?

  • Sorry to say that none of the above seemed to do anything for me. It's probably worth noting that I actually had two separate pref.prop files (pref.prop and pref.prop (2)) in Documents\telltale games\The Walking Dead Season Two. I tried taking one out and then the other, but neither did anything for me.

Like wise, disabling the steam cloud did not make anything show, and there are no other saves in any of the files. And yes, I cannot access the "My Choices" screen.

Thank you for the help though.

Did you make sure to rename each of them to prefs.prop.bak when you removed them, to disable the file? If not, the file may have still been causing the issue even though it wasn't in the folder.

  • Yes sir. Still to no avail.

Like I said though, if there's a way for me to get back just my deciscions from the first season, I'd be willing to replay the first two episodes of season 2.

After looking over your support tool file again, it seems that your proper save files, prefs.prop file, and syncfs file from your complete Season One playthrough are in

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

If you have any other prefs.prop files associated with The Walking Dead: Season One, please rename them to prefs.prop.bak to disable them.

Then move the above save files, prefs.prop file, and syncfs file (along with any other files in that folder) to

    C:\Users\Alex\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

and make sure they are the only files in there. Then after you have disabled the other prefs.prop files, and have moved your proper files over, restart the game, and your Season One saves should be restored.
