Telltale Sign-In and Activation Required in Steam Game

I just decided I wanted to play one of the Telltale games I've owned and played since October 13th. When trying to click past the title, a window popped up asking me for my Telltale username and password. That alone was reason enough to complain on the forums. As if I need to both log into Steam in order to use it, to play games, and log into Telltale, to specifically play Telltale games. After filling out my username and copy/pasting my Telltale password, it processed the info and came back to me with the decision that I did not in fact purchase The Wolf Among Us, forced me to sign out or exit, and since I have, I've been prevented from opening the game. Right now, Steam is continually trying, every 10 seconds or so opening a window that says "preparing to launch The Wolf Among Us", then closing it and trying again.

I purchased the game on Steam, which against piracy, since many games now require activation with Steam, and provides incentive for using it.

Is this an error in Steam's client that causes it to not be able to put two and two together? Is this an oversight in a new update to the game that won't allow the game to be started because I lack an activation code?

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please try closing down the Steam Client completely. (Please also make sure to close it if it is still open in the hidden icons in the bottom right of the screen when you click the upward facing arrow. If it is, please right click the Steam icon and click Exit.) Then launch Steam again, and try playing the game. If you are still unable to play without receiving this error, please try deleting your SyncFs folder from your

C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Wolf Among Us\ file directory if on PC,

    or

~Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/The Wolf Among Us/ file directory if on Mac,

and then restart the game, and you should be able to start without receiving this message.

  • Thanks, I came back to this after shutting it down and calling it a night. I opened it again today and the issue doesn't occur, so I didn't have to delete anything.
