Decisions won't transfer between episodes

Support Tool File: https://www.sendspace.com/file/i778mu
(It showed a lot of "permission denied" while it was running so idk if it works?)

OS: Mac

So In game one I had the problem where decisions wouldn't transfer from one episode to the next but I fixed it by moving around the prefs.prop a few times and I managed to easily get that data over to game 2. I just finished S2E1, however, and the same problem popped up. I tried finding the prefs.prop to fix it but I can't find the pack folder anywhere. What do I do?? Thanks in advance for any help!

I apologize for the inconvenience. After looking over your support tool information, it seems that you have multiple prefs.prop files. Please rename the prefs.prop files from the following locations

    /Users/YOURNAME/Desktop/prefs.prop

    /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/The Walking Dead/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack/default/prefs.prop

    /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/The Walking Dead/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack/WalkingDead102/prefs.prop

    /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/TheWalkingDead/prefs.prop.orig

to prefs.prop.bak to disable them, and then restart the game, and your save files will be restored. (Your Library folder is sometimes hidden, to make it visible, please open a Finder window, and at the top of the screen, click Go and hold down the Option key. The Library will now become available in the drop down menu. Click that and follow the above file paths to find the other prefs.prop files, and rename them.)

  • Thank you for the quick reply! Sorry for my late reply- I went to get groceries. I've disabled all the files. What do you mean by restart the game? I closed the game and reopened it but when I started Episode 3 it didn't have the correct decisions. I tried starting from Episode 1 but then I couldn't import my game 1 info since it was disabled. Any other ideas? Once again, thank you so much for your help!

  • Okay so I looked through the files again and it turns out the prefs.prop.orig is in the same folder as another prefs.prop so I disabled the prefs.prop.orig and undid the accidental disable that I originally did. I managed to restart the game from S2E1 with my old data from Season 1. Hopefully it'll work! Thanks for the help! I'll check back in later if it transfers over to Episodes 2 and 3 nicely!

  • Good morning! So I played through the game but when I reached Episode 3 the same bug happened. My data keeps being lost between Episodes 2 and 3. I even tried restarting episode 2 to see if I could play though it again and it didn't even have the information from episode 1. Apparently the game is deleting everything whenever I finish episode 2? I'm attaching my lastest run of the support tool! Your help would be once again appreciated!

After looking over your new support tool information, it looks to be the same information as the last link you provided. Can you please clarify if you uploaded the correct file? The extra prefs.prop files are still showing up in your latest support tool link.

After looking over your new support tool information, everything seems to be set up correctly, unfortunately if you still cannot see your save files, I recommend turning Steam Cloud Syncing off, and then restart the game, and see if you can then see your saves properly. (To do this, please go to your Steam Library, and right click the game, and click Properties. Then once in the Properties window, click the Updates tab, and under the Steam Cloud section, please uncheck Steam Cloud Synchronization, and then restart the game, and see if your game saves can then be seen properly.

  • I'm so sorry but I already disabled steam cloud on my entire account in hopes it'd work (I saw it work for someone else in Season 1 when I was fixing that problem). I guess I'll try restarting the game again on another computer and hope it doesnn't have the same problem. Sorry for wasting your time!! If you find any solution please let me know! Thanks for all the help!

  • Okay, I'm really sorry for bothering you again. But This problem seems to be happening to all the TellTale games I play. I tried to play "The Wolf Among Us" but the same thing happened! By the time I got up to Ep. 3 my choices didn't go through and it messed up my choices for Ep.1 going to Ep. 2. Where can I find the prefs.prop files to fix both Walking Dead Season 2 and Wolf Among us? I was able to fix Walking Dead Season 1 because of those files but they seem nonexistent for the other 2 games. Do you know if there is anything else I can do? My support tool information should be the same, but as far as I can see it's not helping. Please help, I really love your games and I just want to play them properly. It's a bummer having to stop in the middle when you are enjoying yourself :(

My apologies. Please try running the Support Tool again, and then I will be able to locate the prefs.prop files for you.

This support tool file is for The Walking Dead:

This support tool is for The Wolf Among Us:

Please run both of them, and upload both support tool files, and I will then assist you further with your issue.
