Why Wasn't There A Way for ******* *** to Win?
Why couldn't the Crooked Man win the trial in any situation!? I mean, it's the finale, there's no stopping what could happen with any of the characters that weren't in the comics! Nerissa left town, so why couldn't the Crooked Man do that in the end if he won? I mean, as cool as the trial was, there could've been a challenge more so than getting everyone on your side, since the majority always sides with Bigby!

Because, as of Fables issue #1, the Crooked Man isn't even a problem. I guess you could make a case that they could have captured the Crooked Man sometime between the game and the comics, but in my opinion, an ending in which the guy who's been corrupting Fabletown for so long gets away scott-free wouldn't have been very...rewarding, in the sense that it would have rendered all of Bigby's efforts for the last 5- episodes completely meaningless. So I guess it's better and less rage/depression inducing that way.
It actually makes me very sad that there wasn't a way for him to win... I had my heart in my throat every time the other Fables started to turn against me because it felt like there was an actual chance of failure.
The threat of a "fail-state" or a bad ending in a game is very important to motivation and adding gravity to an important scene/event. They easily could have had a non-canon ending that sent you to a game over if you did the trial wrong, at the very least..
Then there would be complaints about losing. :P
The fail-safe could have been Bluebeard or Gren or something.
CM wins, Bigby says he'll keep an eye on him, CM says that you won't see him anymore and leaves, then Bluebeard murderer him at night with no witnesses.
It certainly wouldn't be out of character for Bluebeard.
Or Bigby could have had an option to ignore the "jury" (that had at least two CM accomplices on it for crying out loud), and thrown a "not guilty" CM down the Witching Well while a horrified crowd looked on.
But, at least the way I see it, you aren't supposed to know you can't lose until after you've completed the game, and I guess that whole "not-knowin'-what's-gonna-happen-if-you-screw-this-up" thing adds more weight to the drama in that part, I mean, that's what I think.
That's insane. I mean... I know it's true, but it is INSANE that people could possibly complain about a fail-state in a game.
You get the QTE wrong, you die is perfectly okay, but you purposely antagonize and present yourself poorly in the trial = you lose the support of the other Fables and the CM goes free is not? It doesn't even have to be an "alternate ending". Kind of like pissing off Brenda St. John in S1E2 of TWD. If you say incredibly stupid things given the situation, there are consequences.
