Problem with S2 not saving

I am having a problem with the save files in season 2. I was able to finish episode 1, but when I went to episode 2, it said that it would fill in episodes that were missing, even though I had finished everything up to that point. After finishing episode 2, it still said new on the episode select menu. I went to the select save file screen, where it displays save b and the game freezes. I turned off the steam cloud backup for the files, then tried to open the game again. Same problem. I moved the files to a different location so the game wouldn't find them and I could at least start over. I played through the first episode, but it didn't save. Here is the support tool output: https://www.sendspace.com/file/nev3zc

I appreciate any help.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Can you please clarify if you have a prefs.prop file, and saveslot, checkpoint, and autosave.bundle files located in your file directory here?:

    C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two\

If you do, can you please clarify if renaming the prefs.prop file to prefs.prop.bak allows you to start a new game and save correctly?

  • I have the exact same problem. I have had this problem since episode three, which unfortunately I did not realize till today due to an issue in my computer overclocking (I thought that had caused the data loss - restricted to TWD s2...). I have disabled steam cloud, and have reinstalled the game - which did nothing. I have tried looking for other prefs.prop in my computer and I have tried disabling the existing - No help.

My support file is here https://www.sendspace.com/file/dikqx0

  • Fixed it myself. I removed all previous savefiles, deactivated the current prefs.prop, deactivated steam social overlay (steam cloud still disabled) and rebooted the game. Works like a charm now.

Thank you for posting how you were able to resolve your issue. I apologize for any difficulties this has caused, and hope that you are able to enjoy the game!

  • Yes, that is where they are. I have renamed the prefs.prop file to prefs.prop.bak. I restarted the game and there is nothing saved, but it cannot find my season 1 save files.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately it sounds as if your save file has become corrupted. Unfortunately if this is the case, I would have to recommend that you uninstall the game from Steam, then completely delete the save file directory from the game by deleting the

The Walking Dead Season Two folder from the following directory:

    C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Telltale Games\

After deleting the folder, please reinstall the game through your Steam Library, and make sure Steam Cloud saving is Disabled. Then start the game, and you should not experience this issue again.
