Black screen and Xbox freezes after pressing start on Season 2
Good evening.
I have played all of season 1, 400 days and the first 3 episodes of season 2 with no problems whatsoever. I just attempted to access Season 2 and I am unable to. I choose the game, it shows the telltale logo, then it takes me to the Walking Dead season 2 screen with the press start logo. I press start.... It then states connecting and then the screen goes black and my xbox freezes. Not even the middle button works on my controller. I have attempted numerous times to get in the game but this is all that happens.
I run a 120gb Xbox 360 with loads of memory left and no issues.
Could you please enlighten me on why this is happening, would be much appreciated.

I'm experiencing this exact problem also. Will downloading the game again cause me to lose all my save data?
I deleted and downloaded the first episode again but it did not resolve the freezing issue.
Oh Dear... Not good. Really annoying. I'm concerned that if I delete and reinstall I'm gonna loose all my decisions from the 3 episodes and it might not even fix the problem as you have found out. Hopefully someone from TellTale might have a solution.....
I've seen a few other people complain about the same problem in different threads. There was a response from a TellTale employee where he referred the person to Xbox customer support to try and get a refund for the game. I hope that won't be the case for everyone and they'll get to work on a patch to fix this ridiculous problem.
Having the same issue as well. It goes from the title screen and connecting and then black screen. Tried to uninstall and re-install didn't fix the issue.
A refund? What? And don't patches take forever? This is unacceptable.
Tell me about it! I just bought the season pass when it went on sale and now I can't play it at all!
I had the same problem, too. I fixed it by loading from Cloud Storage, exiting the game through the Exit Game option, and then loading from my Hard Drive. I hope this helps.
Same for me. Deleted all episodes and redownloaded. No change. Tried different storage devices. No change. What's going on?? Episode 4 is out today and was looking forward to playing!!!
I'm having the same problem as well. I've tried clearing my cache and loading from different storage devices. Neither worked. I was going to try deleting and re-downloading but judging by everyone's comments that doesn't work either. How frustrating.
Maybe you should try:
If this doesn't work, then the only thing I could recommend is to delete your save file from the system options menu. This issue is directly related to people's save files, so this would fix the problem. However, all of your decisions will be erased. I guess having the game without your saves is better than having no game at all, though.
I don't know if it's a problem with their servers or what but must be!! And not my xbox or saved games!
But just to let everyone know, I went back into the walking dead season 2 and try and see if by any chance it had resolved itself or not. I did not delete anything, or download again or use the cloud or anything. All I did was go into the game like I have always done, pressed start and to my amazement the black screen only lasted a few seconds and it took me straight into the menu no problems. I have now downloaded episode 4 Amid the Ruins with no issues. I won't be able to play it now and will only be able to try it later this evening, but I will let everyone know if the episode plays ok.
People, just keep trying to access the game and hopefully it will work for you too. Good luck!
Yeah, I don't know what they did but it's working now. Crisis averted.
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The issue should now be resolved. Please try starting the game again while connected to the internet, and you should be able to successfully play the game/download episodes from the Xbox Marketplace.
I'm sorry to say that I still have the problem - tried to run the fourth episode today for the first time and all I got was a black screen.
Can you please clarify if after restarting the game, that you were able to successfully play the game? Also, can you please clarify if you were connected to the internet when starting the game?
Even after restarting both the game and the XBox, I only got a blackscreen (tried it several times). I was connected to the internet when starting the game.
Can you please clarify how long you waited at the black screen before closing the game? I recommend starting the game again, and the black screen should go away after a couple minutes.
I waited for about 30 minutes and nothing changed.
My apologies, please try deleting and re-downloading the game from the Xbox Marketplace, and also Clear your System's Cache, then start the game while connected to the internet, and download the latest Title Update, and you should then be able to download/play Episode 4.
just bought the game on disk for the xbox 360... got home put it in and it sayed connecting and then a black screen came up and it froze... waste of my money..

@around_once and @Mklovin I apologize for the inconvenience. Please try starting the game again a few more times, and you should eventually be able to connect. If you are still experiencing the issue, can you please clarify if you have at least 10% space left on your storage device in order for the game to cache properly? Also, have you tried starting the game and waiting a few minutes before closing the game? When you reach the black screen, can you still press the Xbox button, and access your Xbox Dashboard?
ive had to have tried it more than 20 times and i have way more than 10% storage left. i cant press the menu after 10 seconds of the black screen
ive waited 30 mins before turning off my xbox it doesnt work man you guys need to send out a patch man
My copy of the game is on disk so this may not apply to those with a digital download. My experience in the past two days is as follows:
From what I can tell, this is not an issue with the media, the XBox, the save profile, or the storage (assuming there's plenty of free space). This seems to be a server side connection issue; perhaps too many connections at once and the server side is overloaded?
