Can't open menu

Hi there, I just got TWD season 2 and no matter when hor how I try to press esc, i can't open the menu. At first I decided to suck it up and only pause the game but now I can't help it because of other problems : when I try to help Pete when he gets attacked, I can only it the zombie once on the arm. Someone said that I should open the menu and then go back to the game immediatly, which I can't do. I am now stuck in a loop, if you can help me ?

    I apologize for the inconvenience. If you are stuck at the point where you need to help Pete, and you are only able to hit the zombie once on the arm, I recommend rewinding the episode, and playing through that particular part again, and then when the zombie attacks you, try clicking on the action repeatedly, and the quick-time event should complete successfully after one or two tries.
