Wallace's terrible vocabulary

The game was overall very good, but there was one point that bothered me. Why is Wallace unable to say the word "shirt"? It's an obvious solution to one of the puzzles that would have made another puzzle entirely unnecessary, but it's so blindingly obvious that it's a little jarring to see it so completely and utterly ignored.

    Wallace is much too much of a gentleman to talk about a woman's shirt. ;)

    Huh? I thought women had an issue with shirts and guys talking about them.

    What do you guys think he's trying to talk about? I don't get it.
