Re-commission Major

The major has his headgear and has named his replacement, but he won't leave the basement until he is recommissioned. Hint please?

    The helmet's not the only thing he remembers wearing during his soldier days...

    What I needed was in a place I had looked before and found nothing.
    It wasn't there until I needed it I guess. Am trying to get bees out of basement now.

    Well, it is there if you look with Gromit earlier in the game but he just puts them back again. :)

    Well, I got him the
    helmet
    and the
    dog-tags for Gromit
    , but he still won't leave the basement.
    The third picture shows his mum and a gun - does the solution have anything to do with those?

    OK, I found the solutiuon right after posting the question :D
    I just hadn't given the dog-tags to the major...
