My helmet broke!

Hello!

I was reading the walkthrough, thinking I would never figure out how to get the Sniffer 3000 out of jail, and I now know that
you have to throw the Wensleydale in the cell and the Gorgonzola in Constable Dibbins' hat.
I did this already, and I
went back and talked to him, expecting him to talk to the Sniffer,
and he didn't. Wallace just asked him about honey. Where did I go wrong, it's driving me insane!!

    clicking on the petition next to the door to the jail?
