Back to the Future Unofficial FAQ (Last Updated May 28, 2018)

Note that all information in this FAQ is compiled by community moderators Jennifer and Vainamoinen. We check our facts thoroughly and have a lot of Telltale experience on our backs, but this is not an 'official' source, we're just volunteers!

(1) What is Back to the Future: The Game?
Back to the Future: The Game is an episodic adventure game that takes place many months after the events of the third movie in the Back to the Future film trilogy. Marty is at an estate sale as Doc has been missing for months, and his lab is put up for sale by the bank. The DeLorean time machine comes to 1986, without a driver, and with a message from Doc that he is in trouble at some point in the past or future. So, Marty must find out where Doc is and travel through time again to save him.

(2) Were the creators of Back to the Future involved in the game?
The co-creator of Back to the Future, Bob Gale, was involved as a story consultant, making sure that the story stayed true to the greater universe of Back to the Future. In addition, Christopher Lloyd reprised his role as Doc, Claudia Wells reprised her role as Jennifer, and Michael J Fox played a McFly ancestor and other characters in the final episode (AJ Locascio played the role of Marty McFly). In addition, in the 30th Anniversary Release, Tom Wilson reprises his role as Biff Tannen. In the original release, Biff was played by Andrew Chaikin, also known as Kid Beyond.

(3) What is gameplay like?
This game was released before the cinematic story games such as The Walking Dead, so the gameplay doesn't consist of choices and consequences. The gameplay consists of puzzles which are mostly solved by manipulating objects and talking to characters. The camera helps you solve puzzles more than in previous titles, so Telltale Games co-founder Dan Connors has referred to it as an easy adventure.

(4) For which platforms is Back to the Future: The Game available?
It is available for PC and Mac, PSN and on disc for PlayStation 3, Wii, and on iOS. It is also available for PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in a special edition entitled Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition.

(5) How much does Back to the Future: The Game cost?
The entire season can be purchased for PC and Mac for $25 on Steam and at the Telltale store or for $25 for PC on GOG.com. The 30th Anniversary Edition is $20 for the entire season. The prices for other platforms vary.

(6) How many episodes are there in Back to the Future: The Game?
There are five episodes. The episode titles are It's About Time, Get Tannen!, Citizen Brown, Double Visions and OUTATIME.

(7) Will Back to the Future: The Game be ported to other platforms?
Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 13, 2015, five years after the release of the first episode of Back to the Future: The Game. No plans to port the game to further platforms have been announced.

(8) What is included in the 30th Anniversary Edition?
The 30th Anniversary Edition includes all five episodes with improved textures and the original actor for Biff Tannen, Tom Wilson, reprising his role. It also includes a behind the scenes video.

(9) Is there a bonus/free collector's DVD version for Back to the Future: The Game available from the Telltale store?
There was, but unfortunately, the collector's DVD is now out of print.

(10) Is there a soundtrack CD available?
No soundtrack CD was ever produced for Back to the Future: The Game. Since Telltale has mostly moved on from physical merchandise, it seems unlikely that a soundtrack CD will be released in the future.

(11) What is this comic adaptation I read about? Did Telltale Make that too?
Back to the Future: Citizen Brown is a comic book adaptation of Back to the Future: The Game. Like the game, it was told over five parts. The first issue was released on May 11, 2016, and the final issue was released on September 28, 2016. A trade paperback collecting all five issues was released in print on January 4, 2017, and digitally on April 19, 2017. The trade paperback can be purchased in paperback form from Amazon or digitally on Kindle or Comixology.

This comic was not produced by Telltale. Back to the Future: Citizen Brown was published by the current license holder for Back to the Future comic books, IDW Publishing. The storyline of the game was adapted into comic form, with a few differences, with IDW Publishing's writers and artists handling the comic adaptations. It is set in the same universe as their Back to the Future, Biff to the Future, and Tales from the Time Train series.
