Episode 2 black screen with axe and music
PC Win 7
After running through entire game with no hitches, I'm getting huge amounts of grief on trying to run a new game.
Having had the silent black screen problem, I thought I'd got the work-around that involves renaming the default prefs.prop file when I was able to start episode 2. So I exited the episode (before the first chapter had a chance to finish), and closed the game. The next day, on trying to run episode 2, it went straight to the last chapter. So I rewound to the first chapter, but this resulted in a black screen showing the axe (correct) and cursor and playing mood music (incorrect). As with other black screen problems, I couldn't exit except by Alt-F4.
Got so desperate I removed the user version of prefs.prop too, and most recent saved file, but no change. (And I checked that there wasn't a problem with my video settings.)
The only way I'm been able to run episode 2 at all now is to start a new game and skip episode 1.
We really need a decent fix for this - it's frustrating quite a few people - see this Steam discussion, and I'm minded not to buy further Walking Dead seasons or any other TellTale game unless I can be confident of being able to play them through more than once.

After receiving the information from your support tool, I will be able to assist you further.
TellTaleMike, I've uploaded the output here.
Since starting this thread I started a fresh game starting with episode 2, and the good news is I've failed to reproduce the problem from episode 3 onwards.
Let me know if you want me to take any traces for the problem itself.
After looking over your support tool information, it seems that you have an extra prefs.prop file in your save file directory, but it is already renamed to prefs.prop.bak to disable it. You should be able to use your previous save file now, however we recommend disabling Steam Cloud saving for the game, and you should not experience the issue again.
Thanks TelltaleMike - that did the trick!
You're welcome, I hope you are able to enjoy the game!
