What wireless controllers work for PC? Fix the X360 Wireless?

Can you please tell me what WIRELESS controllers are supported for this game and work with Windows 8.1? I'm ready to buy something that will work.

I have an Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter and controller, a WIRED Xbox 360 Controller, and a PS3 controller. None of them work. I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit.

I have tried copying the dinput8.dll file to the same directory as TheWolfAmongUs.exe. I have tried multiple versions of this dll. I have tried setting compatibility mode before launching TheWolfAmongUs.exe, and I have tried all settings from WinXP to Win8. I also tried x360ce with no luck.

I know the controller works because it works in other games. I can even control the Steam overlay while in game using the controller. The game even detects the controller, because the menu in game changes to show "Press Start" or "Press A".

I had the same issue with The Walking Dead and just ended up buying it on my Xbox... but I don't want to re-buy this game again... please.

Can the dev team please put together a test system with Win 8.1 x64 and an Xbox 360 Wireless adapter and get this thing fixed? Even if I did get the wired controller working, it doesn't reach my couch.

Please fix this.
Please?

I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately the only officially supported controller for The Wolf Among Us, is the wired Xbox 360 Controller. Please make sure that you have the controller plugged in before starting the game, and that you have updated both your graphics card's drivers, and downloaded and installed the Xbox 360 Wired Controller Drivers. (Please note that the Windows 7 drivers will work with Windows 8.

Finally, if you are on Windows 8 or above, you will not need the dinput8.dll file. having it in there will cause the controller not to work.

Then after everything is installed and updated, start the game with the controller plugged in, and you should be able to use it in-game.

  • I have the Telltale version of the game and not steam version and the Wireless Xbox 360 Controller (with the wireless receiver) works without any problems playing any TTG game so far, I did not have to fiddle with anything except installing the driver and having the controller turned on and connected to the PC before opening up the game, I don't think it should be a problem if you are on the Steam version, a last resort could be using Xpadder to map the buttons and play as "keyboard"

  • I have the same issue with the Walking Dead 2. For some reason, my Wireless Xbox controller won't work with the game. I run it using Steam, am also running Win 8.1 64-bit. The controller works with the Steam big picture interface, and the game says press Start instead of click here like it used to when I used a mouse, but pressing Start does nothing.

Did you ever get it working TarvDietts? I hope I can get it to work because I bought this controller, just to play this game and the Wolf Among us!

    Well.
I got it working with the Wireless Xbox 360 Adapter. I was able to emulate the wireless adapter as a standard Xbox 360 wired controller using X360CE and the DLL's that came with it worked.

    Here are the steps.

    Get X360CE:

    • Go to https://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list
    • Download the App (x360ce.App-2.1.2.191.zip) and extract the contents to the same directory as TheWolfAmongUs.exe
    • Download the DLL files (x360ce_lib32_r848_VS2010.zip) and extract the contents to the same directory as TheWolfAmongUs.exe
    • You want the 32bit dll's as the game is 32bit, not 64bit

    Run X360CE

    • Run x360ce.exe and have it create the x360ce.ini file
    • The wireless controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows) needs be detected as the first controller.
      • If you have something else being detected first, close x360ce, unplug the device, disable it, delete x360ce.ini, try again
    • Search automatically for settings, select search the internet
    • Ignore the warning
    • Close X360CE and save the settings

    Edit the INI

    • Open the newly created x360ce.ini with your favorite txt editor
    • At the top, add the following line directly under [Options]
      Version=1

    • Save and close

LAUNCH the game, should be working.

Optionally, you may need to download and install the drivers for the wired Xbox360 controller from
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
