Choices from Episodes 1-4 won't carry over to episode 5

I have been playing season 2 and everything goes fine until I complete episode 4. Then the game glitches first it does not display my choices at the end of episode 4. Then it does not carry over my choices from previous episodes if I try to move on to episode 5. It actually asks me to import my choices from season 1 when I do the game just keeps loading. If try to rewind the game does not carry over my choices from earlier episodes either. I beat the game once with no issues. This is all on PS4. I also can't rewind from my previous save because the choices don't carry over. I would really appreciate a solution. I want to have 2 save files with different choices for when season 3 eventually comes out.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Can you please clarify if you are able to access your Save Files menu from the main menu of the game? If you go to Save Files from the main menu, are you able to access your save files/save slots?

  • Yes I can. I even tried deleting the save file and starting over but ran into the same problem.

Can you please clarify if you are playing online connected to the internet while you are playing through the episodes? Also, can you please clarify if you are allowing the credits to complete all the way through? Your final choices of the episode are recorded during the credits. If you exit or close the game during the credits, the game may not properly record your choices and/or your final save successfully.

I recommend try rewinding to an earlier part in Episode 4, and then see if you are able to complete the episode, and carry your choices over successfully. If you are still unable, can you please clarify that if you choose to start Episode 5, that your choices are actually successfully transferring over even though you get the error messages? Or are you unable to start Episode 5? We have had a few reports of players saying they received the error message, but when continuing the game, their choices were actually carried over successfully.

  • Nothing is working I just keep getting forced to delete my save file and try again. I even deleted and reinstalled the game. This sucks because I beat it once with no issues. Now I can't beat it again cause of some glitch.

  • I just figured out if I quit at any point during episode 4 the game glitches and won't let me continue.

  • I am also having problems. I live in Australia and purchased both Season 1 and Season 2 digitally from the Playstation Store on my PS4. Have just completed Season 1 and 400 days, and would like now to start Season 2, but it will not recognise the save file from Season 1! Very frustrating!

Thank you for providing the extra information, I will make sure to pass it along to the team. Can you please clarify if you are now able to continue with Episode 5?

  • Nope still can't complete episode 5. I decided to buy disc version but my sister got me the discs for Xbox 1. So I am just gonna play on Xbox 1. To lazy to exchange lol.

My apologies, we are looking into the issue where some PS4 players are unable to import their saves into Season Two, and hope to have a resolution soon.

  • I am having the exact same problem on Season 2. As soon as i get to episode 5 it asks me to import my save file from season 1 and then the choices i made in season 2 from episode 1 to 4 have changed and are not the choices i made at all. Where i decided to shoot the lady with the baby now the game is telling me Kenny shot her??? I downloaded season 1 and had no problems but this season 2 has plenty. The save files are not working as it gets stuck on the loading screen and never stops loading.

  • I'm having this problem too. I went to start episode 5, after having played episodes 1-4 again, and it asked me to import my save file from season one. When I did, and it showed the previously on the walking dead bit, it showed a bunch of choices that I never made (eg. Staying or going with Sarita when Carver gets beaten to death by Kenny). And when I go to restart episode 4 it doesn't let me select individual chapters and it crashes after I select a save file for it to copy to. Ive deleted the save file and uninstalled and reinstalled the game and I'm hoping that it won't happen again but after reading the previous comments I'm not so sure. And in case you're wondering I am connected to the Internet and I did let the credits do their thing

My apologies for the delayed response, can you please clarify how many save slots you were using when you experienced the issue? Also, did you rewind multiple times during your playthrough? Did you play through multiple episodes in one sitting, or in smaller increments?

  • I was using save slot two when I was playing this time and save slot one was taken up by my previous play through. And I'm pretty sure I played it an episode at a time. In that I would start and finish an episode without quitting or leaving the game throughout.

I apologize for any difficulties this has caused you, unfortunately we are still looking into the root cause of this issue. My only other potential solution would be to delete any save slots that you are not using, and use only one save slot to play through the game, and you will be able to play through without this issue occurring.

  • This may seem like a long shot but might the problem have something to do with the PS4's screenshot feature. During episode 4 I used it to take a few screenshots and then after that is when the problem arose. Before that there had been no problem and I never did it during my first play through of the game and it worked fine. I also did the same during season one of the walking dead and something went wrong and it's corrupted the save file

This particular issue should not be affected by using other features of your Playstation. We have heard reports from other players that they are able to complete the game by playing the game in smaller increments. (Play one episode at a time, then after completing an episode, exit the game and turn off the console. Then start the console, and load your save file, then play another episode, and continue this for each episode of the season.)

  • I'm having the exact problem as the opening post. Only difference is that it all started when I tried to sneak past a zombie in episode 5 instead of shooting it. He grabbed me, it showed me die, but instead of showing a you have died, continue screen, it showed me a dark red screen where the center of the screen was blocked, and I could spin the edges with the analog sticks. It was weird. I think I could still pull up the menu and I'm pretty sure I hit quit. That's when it did what the opening post said. Btw mine is a digital copy.
I played through episode 4 again, got up to about where I was before, and I thought it would be a good idea to do a save and quit so I could copy my save file over to another slot. Well that was stupid because apparently my save file that I was playing on got corrupted and it did the "import season 1 save" thing and I started at the beggining of season 4 (I think) again. I would say where but you might consider it a spoiler so I won't. But it was hours before where I had left off.
Finally, and most importantly, when I look at my choices episode 3, the last spot which is supposed to ask about serita, instead asks, did you leave with mike? Which is the last decision I made before it errored.

Unfortunately if your save file was corrupted, all of your save data and choices would have been lost from that particular play through. When you chose to import your saves from Season One into Episode 4 of Season Two, all of the choices for Episodes 1-3 were randomly generated for you. Unfortunately if you would like to play with the choices you made, you will need to start a New Game in Season Two, and import your saves, then play from there again. My apologies for any difficulties this may cause you.
