OS X: unplayable due to graphics / texture issues

The game is unplayable for me due to this:

(never mind that gfycat mirrored the video vertically for some reason).

The issue appears in full screen as well as in windowed mode, although it seems to be a bit less pronounced in the latter.

    If you are unable to resolve the issue by switching to Windowed Mode, please also try changing your computer's settings to 'Automatic Graphics Switching' by following the steps in This Webpage.

    the issue persists in both windowed and fullscreen mode. Also, I cannot enable to Automatic Graphics Switching, since I'm on an iMac which only has discrete graphics.
