PS4 - Cannot Download error

I just purchased the game on the PS Store and have tried downloading the game a couple times now but every time I do the update file finishes downloading just fine, however the full 2.6GB game keeps giving me a "Cannot Download" error right around 2.4GB into the download every time. Clicking retry doesn't do anything, it will try to download for another 1-2 secs. then give me the same error.

Anybody else experiencing this issue or have any ideas on what I can do? I have already deleted the download files completely from my console and did a full power off of my system but still nothing...

  • same problem here. think it's error 36244-9. sony says to delete, turn off system, and try to redownload. which didn't work for me. then it says go to settings and initialize ps4 (which deletes all user data). haven't tried that just yet.

  • I didn't have any problems downloading it on PS4. I sent it to the download queue from the PC PSN store, if that changes anything.

  • I too am having a similar issue, at ~2.4gb downloaded as well. Any updates on how to correct this issue?

  • Im having this problem too. Tried deleting and redownloading it several times, and cycling power on ps4, nothings worked yet. The patch downloads fine but the game gets stuck around 2.4 gb

  • I'm having the same problem. Deleted it and tried again a couple of times and always stops around the 2.4gb mark. I downloaded another game to see if it was my hard drive but that downloaded fine.

  • Is there really no help on this?

  • Not sure if it's a coincidence but I finally got it to install after several tries. I deleted the game, turned off the playstation and unplugged it for 30 seconds, turned it on and rebuilt the databasr and then installed the game. Hopefully this helps some of you

  • Awesome thanks, will try that later

Apologies for any difficulties this has caused. If you are experiencing any issues downloading files from the Playstation Store on PS4, please try turning off your console for at least 30 seconds as @Wizardz3 stated, and then start the console again, make sure you are connected to a strong internet connection, and then restart the download, and you should be able to successfully complete it.

You can also try the method that @Kakulukia suggested of starting/queuing the download to start automatically by logging into your PSN account from a PC/Mac on the Playstation Store website (after you have restarted your console) and see if you are then able to download the file fully.

  • I have tried multiple times, to no avail, I was wondering if there was any headway made on this yet.

Can you please clarify what region/country you are currently residing in? Also, are you connected to the internet using a wired connection, or over a wireless network connection?

  • also having the same error, it downloads til ~2.2 GB and then just stops and says cannot download over and over again. Have tried restarting, leaving it off for a minute then restarting again, deleting the file and redownloading, etc. I am on wireless but it's fast enough to DL the 2.2 GB in like ~4 minutes or so and it has no issue downloading anything else.

I am in Canada but I believe my PS4 is setup as USA for region (not 100% sure). I also use a manual DNS for unblock-US for netflix/etc., but since it DL's the first 2.2 GB no problem I don't see why this would be the issue, esp. since so many others are having it

  • Same issues. Have tried deleting and downloading again, as well as initializing the system - game download gets stuck at about 2.4GB. Not sure what more to do, but will also contact Sony for a refund.

  • UPDATE: I paused the update file download and downloaded the game first. Not sure if this will work for everyone, but worth a shot.

I am sadly in the same boat. Living in Southern California, trying to download Game of Thrones after buying the digital season pass.

Download dies around 90% of the way done, every time. I have tried resetting my console, using two different internet connections (one wired, one wireless), restoring the digital licenses - and it still hangs up at the same place, every time.

I also went over to a friend's place, logged into my psn account, and tried downloading it on his console. IT STILL hung up at the same place and cancelled the download.

Really angered by this, frankly. Been a long time fan of Telltale since your back to the future series - and want to continue supporting great writing in video games. I have yet to call Sony about this, because I fear all they'll do is offer me a refund. I don't want my money back - I want to be able to enjoy this new title.

ETA: Got it working! Had to brute force it by continuing to restart the download again and again, but it did go through!

  • Ok, also having this problem. Have deleted and restarted the download several times to no avail. Playstation support suggests I initialize my system again, which will delete all my local content. And trying to upload anything to the cloud gives me another error message. So I have the choice of losing all my progress in every other game I have and MAYBE getting GoT, or not doing that and being out 25 dollars for nothing. Please tell me there is another way to fix this that hasn't been said in the thread already.

  • I had this same problem like 3 times...check this link out,it worked perfectlyhttp://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-4-Support/Error-CE-36244-9-SOLVED/td-p/43550994

  • No need to reformat your ps4 or anything,it will continue downloading right where it left off..hope it helps

  • Wow, thanks for that man. I had given up hope but once I figured it out it worked no problem. I just wish I could understand what any of it actually meant haha.

  • That link didn't work for me (if the answer was to set a static IP and set your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8..4.4)

@Nacissus how did the brute force work, did you delete the file and restart the DL or just simply hitting "retry" "retry" "retry" when it says download doesn't work?

  • Hooray! Brute force also worked for me, just mash X as much as possible at the "retry" "retry" "retry" bit, on like my 5th hit in quick succession it switched from 99 hours remaining to 10 minutes remaining and finished the DL as normal.

  • Thread: PS4 CE-36244-9 error

Hello, it seems the PS4 thinks that the downloadable source (or bin) for the main game is corrupted, so I am unable to play my Season 1 Pass purchase in the PSN. In case needed the info., i downloaded the game bin via wifi connection on the PSN. Nothing wrong in my end for I installed other games using the same procedure. And also seem to install the update patch without the problem. here's an image link provided for visual representation of the problem: Click here

Thank you all for providing the extra information on how you were able to resolve the issue. I hope you are now able to enjoy the game!

  • TelltaleMikeTelltaleMike Former Telltale Staff

@FenrirAB We are currently looking into the root cause of the issue. Please try one of the above workarounds that were able to resolve a similar issue for other PS4 users, in this thread, and see if you are able to download the game successfully.

  • Good Karma if my first comment on this board helps someone right?
Here's how I got the game to download / Install.
Note: These are the steps I took exactly, it might not be necessary to do all of them or all of them in this order, but I wanted to replicate the process that worked for you guys.

    1. Upon starting fresh (from a new DL, or a delete/re-download) Immediately pause the game download.
    2. Allow the UPDATE file to finish.
    3. Attempt to download the game file.
    4. When it fails at 2.5...
    5. Delete the completed update file. (But not the game download)
    6. Retry the game download.

At this point it started from 2.5 and completed for me after a whole night and day of failing to get it to download.
All I can think is that the PS4 doesn't want to complete the game download while the update file is still in the queue, even finished.

7 . Restart the PS4, this will trigger the update file to start anew, and you'll be left with both the game and the update fully installed.

    Good luck.

  • I've been trying to download Game of Thrones for two days now. Have literally tried every suggestion on here and every time I get error code CE-36244-9 just before it finishes downloading.

  • TelltaleMikeTelltaleMike Former Telltale Staff

Please try downloading the game again, and if you reach the error message again, try pausing the download after you receive the error message. (You will press X on the error screen, and your download will try to resume. Quickly press X again to pause the download) Then try waiting 10-15 minutes with the download paused, and then resume the download, and see if you are able to complete the download successfully.

  • Same issue here. Been trying for days and I've tried all the methods here. Could never get BttF or Walking Dead S1 working on 3 different PCs. And now this on PS4. Think I'm done buying TellTale games.

    Please try my above workaround:

Please try downloading the game again, and if you reach the error message again, try pausing the download after you receive the error message. (You will press X on the error screen, and your download will try to resume. Quickly press X again to pause the download) Then try waiting 20-30 minutes with the download paused, and then resume the download, and see if you are able to complete the download successfully.

This may allow the Sony servers to update, and allow the download to resume successfully.
