So I guess the lesson is "Don't get comfortable"

I really loved playing as Ethan. He seemed interesting and the idea of playing as a young lord trying to hold things together seemed like an amazing approach for a game of thrones telltale game. It also helped that I found Ethan to be by far the most likable member of the cast so far.

So of course he gets killed off. Maybe he could survive? No he's dead. Did I do something wrong here? No he's dead.

It makes perfect sense to have someone die horribly in GOT ala Ned Stark but I was honestly shocked that telltale would build up such a potentially interesting character only to have him brutally murdered. I don't know if it's the right move going forward (I really don't want to have play much more of the dull as dishwater Sansa knockoff sister) but there's no denying it was ballsy.

In my opinion Ethan is the death that sets up the series, thats why he dies. hes our incentive. And you cant deny killing Ned was the best decision, it sets up the rest of the story

Plus Ethan was basically a Bran clone himself, if you look that way. A young third born left in charge

The whole "Your story begins" being at the end if the point, This is a starter or set up episode

  • I mean, I should have seen it coming. I've read all the books so I know people die like that. I honestly expected people to start dying horribly as the season went on but to kill off the lead character of the first episode like that? That threw me.

Looking back Telltale intentionally messed with our heads by making Ethan a mixture of Bran (the young noble) Lee from walking dead (the wearly and reluctant leader) and Bigby from Wolf Among Us (Leader who has to choose how harsh a punishment is needed). Even that scene with the little brother after you deal with the thief made me think of the Lee and Clementine dynamic (Young character questions the player over whether they did the right thing).

Ballsy ballsy move and I'm so glad I decided to buy and play episode 1 asap so as to avoid spoilers about it.

  • Seriously, Telltale kills its protagonists. Game of Thrones kills its protagonists. What would you expect from a Telltale's Game of Thrones game?
