Games need to be unlocked on the DVD version?

That's what I was wondering. I ordered the complete (2 seasons) Sam & Max bundle today and while I was installing (and attempting to play) the first episode of season 1 just a few minutes ago, I came across this 'unlock' thing which requires you to be connected to the internet. Problem is, my primary gaming computer does not have an internet connection. I think the manual activation stuff (getting a request code and sending it via e-mail) is a little too tedious and what if Telltale ever went out of business? I could no longer play these games!

So I was wondering if this (dubious) protection scheme is also present on the DVD version of these games. Can anyone confirm this?

    The DVDs do not require online activation, but you do need to have the DVD in the drive while you play.
