Can I download the episodes outside of the game?
I purchased the game from Telltale on PC thinking that all episodes were included in the installation, but only the first was there. I'm using an agonizingly slow internet connection that I unfortunately cannot do anything about since it belongs to my parents. Apparently, the only way to download the other episodes is within the game, but I don't want to have to sit there staring at a purple screen for hours. I don't know if alt-tabbing out of the game will allow it to download in the background. Ideally, I would like to be able to download the next episode while playing the current one. Is there some outside source that lets me do this?

Unfortunately you can only download within the game.
I think you can tab out and download, or just download it before you go to sleep and download it over night
