Blank screen upon launch

Hey, I bought GoT a day ago on Steam screen. Quite bluntly, and to make a long story short, it doesn't work. I get a blank screen upon launch that I can't alt+tab or even ctrl+alt+del out of. My current rig exceeds the system requirement, plus this game isn't as graphically intensive as some others I have in my Steam libary, so I'm confused as to why it doesn't work. Updated Nvidia drivers, tried running it in compatibility mode, running as Admin, checking if I put beta updates on by accident, turned off overlay, checking I've opted out of all betas, checked that Steam isn't running in comptaibility mode, verified game cache integrity etc. Apparently some people have solved this issue via Nvida 3D settings in the control panel and 'selecting a higher processor' but that option doesn't appear for me. So yeah, I'm pretty stumped by now. So far it feels like my £20 has gone done the drain.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please try starting the game again, and when you see the blank/black screen, please try switching the game to Windowed Mode using the shortcut (Alt+Enter for PC) and see if you are then able to see the game correctly. If so, please then try changing the game's resolution and/or graphics settings to a lower setting, and click Apply. Then try switching back to Full Screen Mode by using the same shortcut, and your issue should then be resolved.

  • Hi TelltaleMike, thanks for the assistance. Unfortunately, that solution doesn't appear to work. I've tried it three times and it hasn't worked. The blank screen remains and I have to shut down my computer due to the fact that I can't alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del. Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks, Spur

My apologies, please try uninstalling the game from Steam by right-clicking the game from your Steam Library, and clicking Delete Local Content. Then reinstall the game, but make sure that before clicking install, that you have disabled any anti-virus or internet firewall programs open and running that may be blocking the game from installing fully/downloading an incomplete file.

Hey, thanks for the quick response. I have did that, checking to make sure that both Comodo and Avast were disabled. However, there has been no noticable improvement. The black screen continues to persist. I have the sendspace links for the new install if it helps.

Can you please clarify how you are starting the game? From your Steam Library, by double clicking the icon shortcut created when you install the game, or by double clicking the executable from the install file directory?

You can also try uninstalling the game, and then try changing the download region from which your game install is coming from. To do this, please click View on the top left of the Steam window, and click Settings from the drop down menu. Once the Settings window is open, click on the Downloads tab, and under the Download Region section, try switching to a different region using the drop down menu. Then close the Settings window, and restart Steam before attempting to install the game again.

  • Hey Telltale Mike,

I appreciate the assistance but I think this is beyond the means for you to help me with. I think my computer has a hardware issue (likely the GPU or the motherboard) that's causing these problems, as it has happened with Star War: X Wing and Stars War: TIE Fighter and yesterday the computer would only power up but not start. I wasn't even able to get into the BIOS. Thanks for the help and I appreciate your diligence. If the problem persists even after I fix the hardware, I'll let you know and I'll also let you know if it works.

    Cheers, Spur
