Steam: No Sound on Mac Pro
Hello,
My problem is quite simple - i can't hear anything. Sound in general works. I can even listen to spotify or youtube while the game runs. But the game itself does not do anything in regards of sound.
Here are the support files:

I've USB loudspeaker connected - but it doesn't matter which output channel I set as default. I have no sound.
I also tried setting the volume in the game to 0, restart the game and change the setting again (this worked for me on another steam title)
It would be awesome if you could help me...
Best Regards,
Stefan

I apologize for the inconvenience. Can you please clarify if you are able to hear the game's sounds through the Macbook Pro's internal speakers, or if you plug in headphones into the audio out jack, if you are able to hear the audio then?
Hello Mike,
thank you for your reply. I've tested around a bit more...
Internal Speaker => no sound
USB Speaker => no sound
USB Head Set => no sound
Headphones via Audio Jack => sound works
We're talking about a "Mac Pro", not a Macbook Pro. Not sure if that makes a difference.
I also bought TWD and TWD Season 2 - the same issue there. However - the Wolf Among Us works perfectly fine.
Best Regards,
Stefan
Update:
as suggested in a lot of other threads...
I also ran the steam verfiy data option. No change and still no sound using internal or external USB speakers.
I've uninstalled the game and reinstalled it again. It didn't help. (It's the steam version, so I didn't delete any folders. I used steam to uninstall the game).
Best Regards,
Stefan
Update:
I have disconnected all my USB devices (except my Mouse). No change.
Best Regards,
Stefan
Update: I managed to fix the issue.
Here is the updated system information with all USB devices disconnected: https://www.sendspace.com/file/kgonk1
The issue was that I had installed NoMachine (former FreeNX). This installs two additional audio devices to capture/transfer desktop audio. You can see the devices when opening the "Audio-MIDI-Setup" tool.
I don't use audio with the NoMachine Player, so I removed the audio drivers. The audio devices are kernel modules located in: /System/Library/Extensions.
I deleted the nx*.kext files and rebooted the machine.
This fixed the issue.
In addition & just for your information: For example the Bowens & Wilkins USB speaker set a default frequency of 48kHz, which leads to no sound as well. Setting this back to 44,1kHz made the sound work. I figured this out at another steam title. The kHz can be adjusted in the "Audio-MIDI-Setup" tool as well.
So now the sound works with the internal speaker as well as with the external USB speakers.
Best Regards,
Stefan
Thank you for providing the extra information, I will make sure to pass it along to the team! I hope you are now able to enjoy the game!
