So Lord Whitehill just gave us our way out.
Ok so I can see it now. In this episode no matter what you do Ludd Whitehill goes all power mad and steals the other half of the Ironwood and disregards Ramsey's orders. This is the thing that will give The Forrester's their window of opportunity. Since even with the Glenmor forces or the mercenaries from Asher there is no way they could defeat the Bolton's. Yet since Whitehill went against order and took the remaining Ironwood the Bolton's will refuse to help him and say it is their problem and just get Ironwood from whoever ends up winning.
