Can't load, rewind, or save choices
I bought the game on Steam and even though my internet connection is working fine it looks like I cannot connect to the server Telltale Games are using to store choices. Or saves. Or anything.
When I finish an episode, after the 'Next time on Game of Thrones,' the game crashes on a black screen with fog in the corner. When I close and reopen the game, none of my choices have been saved.
When I try to rewind to an episode, the game freezes on the 'rewind' screen after I choose a rewind point.
When I die during a quicktime event and try to restart from a checkpoint, the game freezes on a black screen, although the background noise continues.
I can still play the game - sort of - all of my choices are lost between episodes and for some reason when the game automatically completed my choices in Episode 1 it chose the exact opposite of the actions I had taken. But I don't really want to play the game if the choices I made are forgotten or undone between episodes. I'm not getting any alerts from my anti-virus or firewall so I'm pretty sure it's not their fault, and I've seen the same problem reported by a dozen other people on the Steam forum.
Playing in the UK, running on a Toshiba laptop, using an Xbox controller, tried to log into my Telltale Games account in-game and it couldn't connect to the server again, so I'm fairly certain that's the problem. Why are so many people having trouble connecting to the server?

I apologize for any difficulties caused by this. Can you please clarify if you are connected via a wireless network connection, or through a wired connection? If you are connected through a wireless connection, can you please clarify if plugging in an ethernet cord directly into your laptop, and restarting the game through Steam, allows you to see your choices in-game successfully?
If you are experiencing any performance related issues, such as the game freezing or becoming stuck on a black screen, please read this Sticky on how to run our Support Tool, and follow the steps to run the tool, and reply here with the download link copied and pasted into a reply. You can find the Sticky here:

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply.
I'm using a wired connection, the ethernet cord is plugged directly into my laptop, and I've restarted the game several times.
Here's some 'might be relevant' information - ordinarily I would suspect my internet connection because in the most professional terms possible, it's crap. But when I bought the game, it actually worked fine. I could communicate with the servers and my saves were held and I even took my laptop on holiday and I could still connect to the server just fine, everything was brilliant. Then the hard drive conked out so I had to replace that, although the rest of the laptop is the same. And now I can't communicate with the servers at all even though I could before. Not sure if this changes anything but I can confirm that this connection 100% used to work, it just hasn't played nicely with the new hard disk.

Thanks for the help!
After looking over your Support Tool information, it appears that your save file directory is located in:
C:\Users\User\OneDrive\Documents\Telltale Games\Game of Thrones
Unfortunately your save files may not be able to be read from that directory. I recommend copying the 'Game of Thrones' folder from the above location, and pasting it into the following directory:
C:\Users\User\Documents\Telltale Games\
Then start the game, and you should be able to see your save files, and see your in-game choices.
Thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid that after copying and pasting to the suggested directory then the game still crashed every time I tried to load or save or rewind.
I'm just confused at this point as to how the game used to be working absolutely perfectly on the same laptop with the same internet connection and save file directory, but now it doesn't.
Well this is weird.
After uninstalling and reinstalling the game again, I tried it once more, and this time... it still didn't work!
But then I deleted my original save, changed the slot I use to 'Save 3', and this time it seemed to save my choices and I was able to play through Episode 1 and 2 in one sitting with no crashes and afterwards I went back to double-check and it seems I can rewind again now!
My apologies. Can you please clarify if the game is also installed to the \OneDrive\ file directory? If so, I recommend reinstalling to the default location on your C:\ drive, then start the game again, and your save files should then function as designed.
It's been reinstalled to the default location and Save 1 is still broke but as long as I switch to Save 3 when I start up the game then everything seems to actually work. It's not perfect but that's good enough for me. Thanks for all the help, Mike!
You're welcome. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes, and I hope you are able to enjoy the game!
