I don't think Crooked Man was always evil

I know people often think he is the worst of the worst but compared to someone like Danny St. John he isn't that bad. I think he was more sad about being exiled from the homelands. I know people say he killed Faith and Lily but Faith may not even be dead and it was Georgie who did it. I heard someone say in his story he murdered his wife and children. Well what about Bigby the same guy who ate people and said its not murder if you're hungry. Bigby is capable of worse than The Crooked Man imo.

  • The Crooked Man still ordered Faith and Lily to be killed just because they were going to stop working for him and making money. And Bigby might have done some bad things in the past, but he's a better person now and what Fables have done in the past has been forgiven. The Crooked Man was a bad person and still is a bad person, besides intelligent and manipulative.

  • Bigby changed his ways though! And who murders their own wife and children for fucks sake?! :/

  • I thought people were supposed to have a new start. Bigby was a cannibal

  • Bigby wasn't a human back then! He acquired the ability to become a human from Snow when he entered the Mundane world.

  • Technically no one really is human they're fables not mundies

  • Still doesn't make Bigby a cannibal :/

Explains why they had Adam Harrington, the guy who voiced Andy St. John, voice him.

  • I haven't read the comics. I was dissappointed that the crooked man wasnt evil or crooked looking enough I was just like "oh... is that it?"

  • lol that made sense :)

  • You know I haven't even thought about that. Way to put two and two together

  • Bigby has always been capable of worse but hasn't. He reformed himself when they came back and changed his life to help Fables, whereas the Crooked Man took advantage of a failing town and poor women to make himself rich, and ordered the execution of any of his workers who disobeyed him.

    He's evil IMO

  • You can compare The Crooked Man to Bigby all you want, but in the end Bigby won and he lost. I guess you could say he's a tragic villain considering it is plausible that he was innocent in the murdering of the two girls, since it took a lie to convince people he's guilty. BUT this guy has done some other pretty nasty stuff that I have no doubt he was aware of and could have easily put a stop to. Kinda like a crooked politician. Making slaves is a small step down from murder.

  • You know Bigby was a full Wolf back then and wolfs eat flesh. And how is he able to get flesh if not from other Fables or mundy animals. It's not cannibalisim.

If he ate other wolves, then he would've been a cannibal :-\

  • Fables are fables mundys are humans there are no fable humans or any type of distinction.

But you would refer to someone like Mayor Cole as a Fable human and Bufkin as a Fable animal right?

  • None of them are really human. Yes some fabes are representations of mammals but thats it otherwise they're the same. They're a Fable there are no Fable Humans or Animals other than physically appearing as one.

  • "You ate a lot of people back in the day". That's from the mouth of a fable pig. People as in human fables, which is specifically distinguished from animal fables and especially demigod fables. Bigby is both a wolf fable and a demigod fable.

  • The law's a slippery thing. The Crooked Man saying he didn't literally order it is a loophole. Even if he didn't explicitly say it and didn't carry it out, he was still responsible for her death.

It's like a mobster in one of the gangster films going 'go take care of that f***'. Was killing mentioned? No, but I think we all know what's meant. At the very least, intimidation or a beating would be on the cards, depending on why the individual had fallen out of favor with the relevant boss. And if the order's not carried out? The person would likely be in trouble, which Georgie alluded to with the 'I had no choice'.

Regarding the crooked man not always being evil, I think that's safe to say, though I'm sure there are occasionally people that are born . . . well, not right. Often though, life shapes you in my view. And often people don't see themselves as bad, even if they actually are. Shades of grey most of the time.
