I found it very distracting that ToMI steers certain conversations in this heavy-handed way. Every other MI game has only done this rarely, and always for comedy. Here it seems just lazy, and makes me feel like my choices don't matter at all. In fact, once I had finished the conversation with the journalist I could barely recall anything that was said as I got too distracted by seeing Guybrush ignore every single conversation option I picked.

Telltale, please don't do this for future episodes. Monkey Island deserves better.

My thoughts exactly, my choices don't matter at all!! I'm at this point in the game now SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS, WHAT THE F**K¿!?

I hated this, it was overused, and resulted in Guybrush saying something more neutral, less absurd. I wanna say stupid stuff. That is part of the fun in playing monkey island.

That and I didn't think the writing was up to scratch meant I was disapointed...

Yeah this kinda threw me off, i can kinda see why they did you (you control his inner thoughts, but he could never say that about his mother in law!) but it seemed a bit odd.

Is the reply the same no matter which option you choose in the discussion with the journalist a the start of flotsam or are there actually different replies?

Most of the time I see this it is used for comedic effect, usually successfully. I'm perfectly fine with it. In fact, it usually gets a couple of chuckles out of me.

So what if they don't say EXACTLY what the option is? MI gets a 10 out of 10! a 62 out of 14! A 1678 out of 94, you better believe it!!!!!!!!

To be fair, in the old games, you read everything, so it was always funny first time, but reading something and then hearing it isn't so funny, i personally enjoyed the funny things guybrush would say after choosing a sentence, though i must admit, it did seem a little cheap to have 4 different text sentences and only one final voice sentence no matter which text you chose.

it saves on voice acting. They only have a month to release these things, you know. Besides, wasn't it great those times in MI when the same thing happened? You know, something like:

    You have beautiful eyes.
    I love you!
    Don't worry, I'll protect you!
    Want to go out?

Select one, and it comes out:

    Erk.
    Splee.
    Gwa.
    dmlinky.

(sorry, I don't know how it exactly went, haven't played MI in a long time.

yeah i used to love those old jokes, where four really mean sentences would lead to him saying a fifth sentence which wouldn't get him in trouble but not every time like
