A few questions

Hey, just recently signed up. If these questions have been asked before, sorry :p

I've been a huge Monkey Island fan since I was about 4/5 years old, I played the Amiga versions of 1 & 2 to death, I know Secret (and Curse :P ) too well I can't really play it anymore as I remember all the puzzles :o I was very excited about the new game and the Secret remake, but quite disappointed that it's yet another game that needs to be bought online. It's not an option for me unless I get some help from someone else.

So questions.
1) Will Tales ever be released on the physical format in shops (PC or Wii, I have both but would prefer PC)? I can't bare the thought that I wont be able to ever play a new game from my fav video game series.

2) Is there any possibility that I can pay with Paypal. Mine's unverified (I tried just before but was rejected), in other words not instant. Since it's not released until the 7th is there anyway for me to just pay with paypal's echeque, I cannot verify the damn thing until I get a debit card. Unfortunately my bank thinks my full time job doesn't pay me enough to deserve a debit card  *roll eyes*

3) If not, then I'd probably have to get someone else to buy and pay them back. I live in England, and I'm worried that the preorder bonus disc wont work on my dvdrom. It isn't region coded is it?

4) I know this is probably the wrong place, but I hope some fellow Monkey Island fans will know. Will the Secret remake be released physically as well? Same problem as above ^^ Unverified paypal + crap bank account = no Monkey Island at all for me :(

Thanks in advance. :)

The only thing I know about is 3. There is nothing that would keep you from playing the DVD.

    Oh, and about 4:

LucasArts has basically said "We'll see about it, maybe if it sells well digitally".

Also, your bank sucks. I'm able to get a debit card just fine even with my employment being, um, jumping between part-time jobs that fit with my college schedule.

Thanks for the super fast reply :D

Regarding 3, that's great news. I may have to just get my mam or big sis to buy it for me and I'll pay it back (I really hate doing that tho, I'm 24 for goodness sake lol). They'll want to play the game as well :p

4, I think it will sell well so that's a good maybe. I do have an Xbox as well, I'm just lacking a wireless router as I'm clueless about those things haha.

And yeah my bank is awful, they just said I didn't earn enough. I'm paid more than the average minimum wage, and 38 hours a week. They're smoking something. I think if I asked for a credit card they'd jump at the chance. I don't want one though, I'd rather do without a decent card than run into debt (I'd be terrible with one of those! :D )

You shouldn't need a wireless router, I don't think. If you have a 360, you should be able to hook an ethernet cable directly into the modem.

So that's good for the Secret of Monkey Island remake.

Lol I told you I was clueless. Broadband, wifi.. I dont know a damned thing.

All I'd need is an ethernet cable? My modem is just a basic USB one:

Hmm. I wonder how much the subscription costs are.

    edit:
Wow, it looks so simple. Thank you.
I bet the subscription fee I can't pay for either, I bet you.

I'm stumped really. :( PC wise I can't get either. Wii for Tales might be possible, might. Xbox has fees, which I wont be able to pay for. I dont understand why they can't release it physically, this isn't fair really. (sorry a tad grumpy now)

To get games like the Special Edition of MI1 through Xbox Live Arcade you just need the free Silver account. You pay for arcade games using Microsoft Points which can be bought in various game stores or through your Xbox.

I'm pretty sure that Tales will be released as retail once the episodes are all out, but it might take longer than that.

If you want to wait for the retail version, you might have to wait until early next year.

    1. Those who have pre ordered will be able to buy the tale series on cd for the price of postage. So the answer is YES it is coming to disc for pc

    2. You can also verify your paypal by adding bank account details.. but isnt it you can pay by paypal after july 7th? not sure

    3. ........ why is everyone asking this. it doesnt matter where you or your pc is from. the game will work just fine - even from the disc

    4. Not known yet

    1. What if you can't pre-order? That's my problem. I can't buy from this site's store. That's why I asked. I need an alternative.

    2. That's the first part of verification. One of the next (and final) steps is to put in what credit card u have, blah blah. I don't have a credit or a debit card. My bank seems to think I'll spend my money, god forbid if I had one. My paypal works like an internet cheque as without a credit card, it cant send money instantly, more like 7 working days. I've only been able to use it on ebay and one store online, no other sites seem to cater for this, I don't see the prob, they can just hold off "delivering" the item until payment's cleared.

    3. Because with dvds, there can be region coding. I was worried that if I did get someone to help me buy the game, the preorder disc would be region 1. My dvdrom doesn't accept them. I dont understand why you responded this way, it seemed a question that should be asked. I haven't bought a PC game from america before, why would I? PSP/DS are region free, but most disc consoles are region restricted.
Doesn't the Xbox take USB cables?
Yes. From what I understand, u don't connect a usb cable to and from modem/xbox, it's ethernet cable? I hope I didn't misunderstand the instructions.

Oh great, you're a lifesaver. Thank you. I'll try that.

Ah, that's what I was worried about. :( Well as long as they do it, I have been waiting years already, a few months shouldn't kill me *bites nails* :(

    Thanks for the replies

You don't have to preorder to have DVD of the game shipped to you. You just have to have bought all the episodes somehow. There's no time limit. Non-preorderers won't get the special DVD slip cover by Steve Purcell, though.

Also, I wouldn't count too much on a retail release. So far Sam & Max are the only games that have retail releases. SBCG4AP still doesn't have one. Unless we hear something official about it I wouldn't hold my breath.

It seems to me that other people replying are either not reading your entire posts or are misinterpreting.

From what I understand, you should be able to swap out your PC's connection to the internet to your Xbox 360 by swapping the ethernet cable from your modem to your 360 instead of the PC, if I'm reading this right. I'm not completely sure, as I connect my 360 to my router, but a direct connection via the modem seems just as doable according to Microsoft's help website. What I do know is that you DO use an Ethernet cable, NOT a USB cable.

I would have to agree that holding your breath for a retail release may at least have you waiting a year after all the episodes have been released(that's five months of episodes coming out first, then waiting for a retail release).

For example, Sam and Max: Season One started in October 2006 and was finished in April 2006. It wasn't until August 2007 that it got a retail release, and that was when Telltale really had only one franchise to worry about. I'd also argue that the retail box release of Sam and Max was inferior to the "Collector's DVD", but that's another discussion altogether.

    Seems that way ^^ lol.

MusicallyInspired, I can't buy it. Enough said. I don't have a credit/debit card, buying an online game is not an option for me ;)

Rather Dashing. I dunno about the Xbox thing, to connect I thought I'd need the computer on and connected to get it to work. I assume there I'd put in my isp details into the xbox connection setup (if there is one) instead. I'll have to give it a go sometime, it'd be nice to know if it's do-able. Then at least I could get the remake.

It does look like I'll have to wait. I'm sure Monkey Island will sell well for them to consider selling them to discs in game shops. I know it costs money to do that, but it would of been nice to have that option quite early on. It's not fair on some fans. I dunno if it's possible to convince them to alter their paypal so it allows echeque payments, then I could buy it, wait the 10 days for it to clear and download like the rest of you. :(

I've got along wait ahead of me haha. Thanks for your reply.

Yeah, you can't stick a USB modem/router into the 360, but you can connect your 360 to your pc via ethernet and sort it out that way. I wouldn't recomend it for online gaming but to buy stuff it should be fine.

And to get tales just go into another bank and set up a current account, whack 40 quid in it and wait a few days for your debit card to arrive. They give them out to school kids so I have no idea why your bank is being iffy with you.

How is that even possible? :-)

Ah, you caught my....intentional error! I was just checking to see if anyone was paying attention! :)

Obviously though, we all know I meant April 2007.

No I don't get it either. I have a current account  and it's not like they don't give debit cards out with it, I've seen the forms enough time to know. I'm good with my money, and well I do work, it makes no sense. I'm thinking of setting up a secondary account elsewhere, it's just a matter of getting to a bank which are always closed when I'm finished work  Sigh.

As for the ethernet, I'm missing an ethernet card in my computer :p so xbox isn't an option. My computer is going to get a major refit sometime soon (*again I have to rely on family members to buy that stuff) anyways as the processer was the only thing that didn't match Tales' specifications, and well my motherboard is at it's max with that. New motherboard = new everything lol. I may as well get myself an ethernet card along with it.

Ummm... the only DVD thing that has region codes are VIDEO DVDs that'll play on ye olde standalone DVD player and/or computer; computer games et al are stored on DATA DVDs which have no region coding.

Ok thanks. I haven't bought American games before, but I have imported DVDS. I wasn't sure, thanks for explaining.

I might ask my mam at the weekend to buy this for me. I just hope my oldish processer can handle it, it's the only thing out of spec for me :)

You do realize that the Telltale-DVDs are video-DVDs as well, right (hyrids, to be exact)? All the bonus content is playable on a normal stand-alone DVD-player. But they are all region-free, so no worries.

Just apply for a online bank account and then you can do it in your free time,

    http://www.firstdirect.com/ for example.

They will be able to send you a debit card, even if its Solo card or something (have you asked for one of those?)

Also, where in the UK are you> If your just down the road Ill download it for you! (im in Guildford)

Family members have suggested an online bank as a secondary account, Nationwide for example.

It's probably the only way :) I can't find anything debit only wise on Nationwide, as for the one you suggested, it mentions a monthly fee o_0

As for where I am, I dont know where Guilford is? ^_^ I live in the north east England, not far from Newcastle. But thank you for the offer.

I think the best thing to do for now, is to see if my mam's going to buy the game. She is a huge Monkey Island fan, it's thanks to her that I played all the others when I did. She introduced me to the series. She could just buy it (I pay her half or something), I can play it on her computer whenever I visit. Then hopefully when it gets a physical release I can just play it again on my own computer. Better than nothing. And meh if she's not interested in buying/playing it herself, I'll just give her the full cash for it. Sorted.

You could download it on your Mums PC and then copy the installer onto a USB drive and install it on yours?

OR he just downloads it on his own PC, and simply uses his Mom's serial number for unlocking the game.

I can't really make up from this topic wether it's possible to buy an episode with an unverified paypal account. I hope so, because when I create a paypal account, I will not verify it (I don't have a credit card, and I don't like the idea that paypal has the right to take money from my bank account).

What I would like to do is first create a Paypal account, leave it unverified and then transfer money to my paypal account from my regular bank account, and then pay for the first episode of TMI using Paypal. Can anyone confirm this is possible ? If not, I don't know how to buy TMI........
  • edited July 2009
That's what I was adviced to do in another topic, so I hope so. My money wont clear until the 14th (email says 12th but that's a Sunday. Paypal=fail).

Also it's a one off payment for the entire series, I dont think you can buy the episodes solo.
