Save files wiped on ep 3 install

After downloading ep 3, I opened up the game. For some reason, it was windowed and set to 800x600 resolution. I thought that was strange, but fixed the settings. Then I went to play ep 3... and it's telling me all my save slots are empty! I looked in the folder and still see _saveslot1_id.estore and some other files with similar names, I'm hoping these are my save files? If so... how do I get the game to see them?

After looking over your Support Tool information, it appears that your save file directory/Documents foder is located on your E:\ drive while the game is installed to your C:\ drive. The save file directory should be set up here:

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\Game of Thrones\

If you have your save directory on another drive, the game may not be able to locate that file directory, and will not save properly. If you do not already have the above file path set up, I recommend doing so, and then start a new game, and the game should then save properly.

  • So I think we're zeroing in on the problem here. At the file directory you have above (in the C:\ drive), I have a bunch of save files with the dates that I played the game (right when the episodes came out, in December and in February). However, in the E:\ drive, I had a bunch of save files with the date that I installed Ep 3 (in late March). So I deleted the folder in the E:\ drive. Then I restarted the game. It opened up in 800x600 resolution again (just like I mentioned in my OP), and had no saves available to choose from. I check the E:\ drive again, and lo and behold, the folder is back!

My conclusion: apparently, as of Ep 3, the game is creating a folder in my E:\ drive upon start and trying to read saves from that. However, it looks like my original saves are still safe in C:\ drive. A note: my Windows 8 "Documents" library is set to E:\ drive, which is right where the game is creating this new folder upon start. Is there a way to point the game at my C:\ drive saves?

UPDATE: I just copied everything from C:\ drive over to E:\ drive. The game is reading my saves again! Huzaah! Apparently the game is reading from E:\ and not from C:. I'm assuming this is because my "Documents" library is set to E:\?

Ah, yes, if your Documents folder is set to your E:\ drive, that will be the active place where your current save files live, and copying over your folder from your C:\ drive will in fact allow you to continue from your old saves. I hope you are now able to enjoy the game!
