Yeah, I kinda wanted something that wasn't as obvious and I really like the idea of an anchor behind Murray. People who have no idea how awesome Monkey Island is will just think it's a skull and an anchor and people in the know will crack up.
I like how you've thought about this, Guy.brush. Things like skulls and anchors are generally quite common tattoo designs, but this one has sentimental value to a fan! I say go for it.
So, since this will be my first tattoo, I'm a little nervous about getting one and I just ordered a custom temporary one from this website. I'll let you all know how it comes out and feel free to copy that image if you want one too.
Well you definitely don't want something you will regret as an old man XD It is good because it only looks video game related to Monkey Island fans so you won't look quite as foolish but then maybe you should go for a more personalised skull. Something that you designed and just keep the fanboyism in your head :P
I don't think I would ever have the balls to get a tattoo of anything even slightly movie/game related. But each to their own I guess :P
I would recommend against this. The games may be meaningful to you, but do you really want to be a walking billboard for the rest of your life? And do you want to have a tattoo of intellectual property that you have no control over? What if, in 30 years, LucasArts has turned Monkey Island into a laughing stock and ruined the franchise? I just think this is a bad idea...

Yeah, God forbid, what happens if having an anchor on your arm alludes that you're a homosexual... oh wait...
I never could really get behind getting a tattoo of an intellectual property. And if I did get a tattoo that had anything to do with an IP(not likely considering my intense fear of needles), I'd probably have it be even more subdued that that.
Oh, and yeah, that giant one of the Secret of Monkey Island Cover? First of all it uses the second best cover rather than the best one in the series, and second of all god do those giant tattoos of things like that look pretty damn garish and tacky.
something else to keep in mind is that tattoos tend to get blurry over time. getting a temporary tattoo is an excellent idea, but i would also recommend taking your design into photoshop and using a gaussian blur filter on it to get an idea of how it will look in a few years. from looking at the design you posted i would guess that you may lose some of the detail in Murray's skull, especially the teeth. going with a thinner line and slightly larger design would definitely help to prevent this.
Those tattoos are awesome. I really like the idea of Monkey Island tattoos. It's just underground enough to be really cool. Not played out like a Master Chief tattoo or something. If I saw you around with those tattoos, I'd have to ask you about them and what they were about. Very, very cool.
Also, I just want to explain the reason I chose SMI over MI2.
SMI was the FIRST video-game that I ever played. I had to navigate DOS at age of 3 and teach myself those things just to get into the game. I've loved pirates, video-games and Monkey Island ever since.
The colour scheme of the first box-art to me, converts better in tattoo'd form. The Lechuck's Revenge cover is mighty dark, shady and not very colourful. SMI cover-art on the other hand is just one big party of delightful piratey and islandey colours.. and seeing as though it's all done completely free-hand it's more like an epic painting than a bad-ass tattoo. I've seen a good leg-sleeve of the MI2 front-cover and it converts well, it's just I like the vibrancy and over-all adventurous feel to the contents of the SMI cover-art.
